Requirements
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture or related field; or 10 plus years of direct experience as a Dock Master.
  • Certified Dock Master – US Navy approved Certification or Certification from commercial authority, preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Experience interacting with Production, Customer Representatives, and Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standard Microsoft Office products.
  • Thorough knowledge of vessel structural design.
  • Thorough knowledge of vessel trim and stability calculations.
  • Thorough knowledge of ship and propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. American Bureau of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas, GL, NAVSEA, MIL, United States Coast Guard, International Maritime Organization, etc.).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day floating dry dock operations; including docking of vessels under construction, maintenance or repair.
  • Maintain facility and mobile equipment repair routine, maintenance and recommend requirements to meet environmental and safety requirements.
  • Operate assigned areas within budget forecasts.
  • Ensure safety performance and conformity to company policies.
  • Perform routine inspection of facilities; manage general repair and maintenance of the docks, piers and facility with the crew.
  • Maintain dock certification and recertification when required.
  • Oversee the safe docking and undocking operations of all vessels.
  • Perform docking and undocking calculations and build block plans for safe operations.
  • Manage dock crew for the dock build, haul in and out of vessels and maintenance and repair of the dock.
  • Manage assigned Dry Dock and facilities personnel.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards and identify issues requiring maintenance, repair, or replacement.
  • Monitor weather at all times and take appropriate action to ensure safety of personnel, dock, and vessels on dock.
  • Establish and provide training and qualify personnel in safe equipment operations of Dry Dock components, Mobile equipment and lifting equipment.
  • Establish plans and manages planned maintenance for all Austal San Diego facility assets within approved system/database.
  • Maintain ASD equipment within maintenance periodicity.
