A little more about your role:
WSP has a full-time opportunity within our UK and Ireland Mining Team for a Mine Closure & Asset Transition Lead, preferably (but not essential) based in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the EMEA / UK Mine Closure strategy, supported by the Global Mine Closure Strategy, and build and support our Mine Closure community. This position will be responsible for collaborating across business units, disciplines, offices, and regions to build a Mine Closure Practice that meets current and future client closure needs.
This position would also be involved in delivery of mineral asset closure / transition projects ranging from integration of closure in design and operations to closure planning and studies and asset transition assessments. We are at the cutting edge of work in this field, and as part of our team, you’ll help us shape the future.
What you will do:
This is a key leadership role within the UK and Ireland Mining team (and globally) and the role will comprise a combination of strategic leadership, business development, client liaison, and technical and project direction. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to, driving and implementing our Global and EMEA mine closure strategy
- Building, guiding and supporting our closure community to develop their professional skills and profiles
- Providing robust mineral asset closure/transition technical direction, input and review across multidisciplinary proposals and projects, with a strong focus on delivery quality
- Overseeing and coordinating large, multi-disciplinary mine closure projects
- Strengthening the team’s market position by proactively seeking internal and external opportunities for further growth and development in context with the Regions mineral activity and influences.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience of leadership, collaboration, personal accountability, persistent and goal oriented
- Demonstrated experience of team and capability building
- Substantial and broad experience in Mine Closure and mineral asset closure and transition planning and execution, across all aspects of Mine Closure
- Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approaches to asset closure
- Strong business acumen with respect to both the consulting business, with an aptitude for improving processes, but also in understanding mining industry business processes and challenges
- Commitment to internal and external client service
- A proven track record in the delivery of large, multi-disciplinary projects on-time and on-budget
- Excellent interpersonal skills with verbal and written communication skills with respect to technical, business development and strategy
- Motivational; staff development mindset; excellent leadership and mentoring skills
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Science or equivalent, coupled with previous consulting experience will be highly regarded.
