Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Ability to perform accurate documentation and maintain patient records.
  • Ability to follow infection-control and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Learn essential ophthalmic skills and techniques under the supervision of experienced ophthalmic professionals.
  • Learn and perform preliminary diagnostic tests, including visual acuity testing, tonometry, and refraction, under the guidance of a certified technician.
  • Assist in preparing patients for eye examinations by conducting preliminary tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, pupil dilation, neutralizing glasses, automated refractions, pupillary examinations, confrontational fields, ocular motility, and intraocular pressure testing.
  • Record patient medical histories, symptoms, and test results accurately in the electronic medical record system.
  • Observe and assist with imaging tests such as optical coherence tomography and visual field testing.
  • Handle and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments properly under the guidance and supervision of a certified technician.
  • Educate patients about procedures, eye-care instructions, and follow-up appointments.
  • Sterilize and clean equipment and examination rooms according to established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document services properly.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to improve ophthalmology skills and knowledge.
  • Perform clinical-clerical office duties, including scheduling, completing request forms, printing results, ordering contact lenses, and related administrative activities.
  • Stock rooms according to practice needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
