Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Four years of directly related experience is required.
  • Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with the assigned work area is required.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and installation, with advanced skill operating various essential equipment, is required.
  • Intermediate computer literacy is required, including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, specialized software programs, and computer applications.
  • The ability to learn and apply essential office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform general facilities maintenance, repair, renovation, and installation duties involving carpentry, plumbing, or mechanical work.
  • Execute assigned maintenance work orders and confer with administrators or contractors as appropriate.
  • Follow safety guidelines and regularly inspect equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot motors, equipment, lighting, and emergency lighting systems.
  • Perform brazing and soldering on light sheet metal and tubing.
  • Maintain and repair rotating equipment, including shafts, bearings, sheaves, seals, and pumps, using vertical and horizontal alignments.
  • Repair and install copper, carbon steel, stainless steel, and plastic piping across the specified sizes and schedules.
  • Repair plumbing fixtures and equipment, including sinks, toilets, faucets, and water coolers.
  • Install and make emergency repairs to various fixtures and equipment.
  • Install floor and ceiling tiles, set forms and finished cement, and install locks and deadbolts.
  • Process sanitary and storm systems.
  • Prepare layouts using a rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Construct, erect, install, and repair wood, plywood, and wallboard structures and fixtures using carpenter's hand tools and power tools.
  • Apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, lacquer, and other protective or decorative finishes to surfaces.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly workplace and follow departmental safety and work procedures.
  • Attend required safety training classes.
  • Interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and schematics to perform maintenance and service.
  • Inspect equipment, diagnose defects, replace parts, and repair or replace electronic controls.
  • Inspect personal and others' work and review it for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness.
  • Notify managers promptly about safety issues and hazardous situations.
  • Perform related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree is preferred.
  • Vocational or technical school training is desirable.
  • A COL license is desirable.
  • An active New Jersey Black Seal license is desirable.
  • Interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are desirable.
