Requirements
  • Master of Science, Nursing or equivalent advanced degree in health-related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience in order to have full understanding of Nursing Education functions.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or (ACLS) instructor certification.
  • Requires knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of Board of Registration approved nursing education program located within the United States or as certified by the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • 5 years current, relevant nursing experience is required.
  • An additional 1-3 years of training and education experience is required, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitates the nursing process (as outlined in the Tertiary RN job description).
  • Provides safe patient care - Demonstrates organizational skills that maintain safe delivery of standard care for assigned patients/families.
  • Performing systematic patient and family assessment relevant to practice settings.
  • Evaluating effectiveness of care and adapts plan based on patient/family response.
  • Effectively communicating plan of care and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates with staff nurses on the assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and documentation of nursing care.
  • Performs routine rounds to observe the delivery of care and to offer guidance to staff, especially for complex or difficult patient problems.
  • Provides the staff with available resources and information to improve patient care outcomes as well as to develop their skills.
  • Collaborates with nurses in coordinating patient teaching as well as discharge planning.
  • Improves nursing practice by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient outcomes and standards of care.
  • Works with Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager and staff nurses to plan, implement and evaluate changes in practice on each unit.
  • Develops unit-based standards of practice/protocols, which are compatible with the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department.
  • Educates nurses about standards of practice/protocols.
  • Coordinates and implements unit-based nursing education on new or revised policies, procedures, products and equipment.
  • Participates in hospital and nursing committees.
  • Develops and monitors continuous improvement initiatives on the unit.
  • Assures maintenance of educational files, bulletin boards and literary resources for the unit.
  • Promotes excellence in nursing practice by providing expert nursing care to patients and functioning as a clinical resource to nursing staff.
  • Guides and instructs staff in their role as direct caregivers.
  • Evaluates nursing practice to provide clinical learning opportunities for staff.
  • Assist staff to incorporate evidence-based knowledge into their daily nursing practice.
