Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
  • Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically
  • Stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds; ability to handle physical demands as described
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring (for Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at BMH & BBC Specific)
  • SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale within specified timeframes for certain units (Bronson South Haven Specific)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course within specified timeframes for some positions (Bronson South Haven Specific)
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support within 6 months for Special Care Unit personnel (Bronson South Haven)
  • The Swing Bed Workday CBL completion for Bronson Lakeview and Bronson South Haven facilities
  • On-call responsibilities for HDU and after-hours (specific to department)
Responsibilities
  • Interprets procedure card, assesses case cart for supplies prior to scheduled procedure time; identifies missing equipment and/or supplies and makes arrangements to acquire those supplies
  • Applies knowledge of operative procedure and physician preferences by anticipating physicians' needs
  • Observant of overt changes in patient's condition that indicates a problem has emerged
  • Evaluates and updates case information, i.e., preference cards, broken or misplaced equipment, back-ordered supplies, and recommended changes in procedure
  • Remains aware of the proper use of equipment and instruments, and discourages improper use and handling by co-workers & physicians
  • Is observant of changing needs of the operative field and the surgical team, anticipates potential needs, and takes appropriate actions
  • Acts as the specialist and resource for circulators who may be unfamiliar with positioning devices, specialty equipment, and/or implants needed
  • Assigned and responsible for after-hour call on a rotational basis
  • Ability to perform scrub duties in multiple services; e.g., neuro and ortho; capable of spinal fusions in both services
  • The registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patients’ health or the situation; assesses the patient’s physical and developmental needs; analyzes assessment data; documents nursing history and vital signs; reviews vital signs to assess condition
  • The registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine patient problems; confirms problems with patient and family; documents expected outcomes and plan of care; utilizes clinical pathway and outcome teaching record
  • The registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; incorporates clinical pathways; develops individualized interventions; coordinates discharge planning
  • The registered nurse implements the identified plan; administers prescribed medication and treatment; utilizes evidence-based interventions; maintains comfort and safety; initiates education; manages care plan and delegation; evaluates effectiveness
  • The registered nurse evaluates progress toward attainment of expected outcomes; documents patient response
  • The registered nurse participates in quality improvement activities and maintains ongoing education; keeps professional records; participates in self-evaluation and peer review; collaborates with patient and family; integrates ethical provisions; integrates research into practice; considers safety, cost, and impact; provides leadership in professional practice; attends unit meetings; supports professional environment
  • The Standards of Practice: collection and analysis of data, planning and implementing patient care, discharge planning, patient education, and evaluation of outcomes
