Spotify provides a digital music streaming platform that lets users listen to millions of songs and podcasts online. It runs a freemium business: a free, ad-supported tier and a premium, ad-free tier with perks like offline listening and higher audio quality. Users access content by streaming it over the internet, with the app recommending personalized playlists and radio based on listening habits. The company earns money from subscription fees from premium users and from advertisers targeting free-tier listeners. Spotify differentiates itself through its large library, user-friendly interface, and strong personalization features that tailor playlists and recommendations to each user. Its goal is to lead the global music streaming market by connecting listeners with a vast catalog and creators, while building sustainable revenue from both subscriptions and ads.

Spotify with an important new feature in Poland. We finally get a new type of account.

Spotify with an important new feature in Poland. We finally get a new type of account. Spotify is introducing a new type of profile in Poland. Thanks to them, the youngest can use the app without obstacles, and parents finally get full oversight of what is actually playing from their children's speakers. 28.07.2026 21:15 So far, there was no effective tool for managing children's accounts on the platform. To have full control over what a young person listens to, a parent had to share their own profile. This in turn affected the algorithm and could disrupt the recommendation system and Spotify Wrapped. Now it will be possible to manage the accounts of the youngest through dedicated profiles. Thanks to them, the family Premium plan will really come in handy, but the option is also available for those who do not pay for the app. Spotify introduces accounts for children under 13. The option of managed accounts was introduced earlier this month, but was not available in Poland, but for example in Germany or France. Now the feature is officially available on the Vistula. Thanks to the new feature, the youngest users under 13 can get their own isolated space for listening to music. A child's profile is directly linked to the guardian's app, who manages it from their phone. At the same time, these are two completely separate accounts, so they do not affect each other in terms of algorithms and the Wrapped summary. If the parent pays for a family Premium plan, the child will not hear ads. If not, they will have to deal with interruptions. What exactly can such an account holder for children under 13 do? * listen to music on Spotify, * create their own playlists, * use personalized playlists and algorithm based on listening history, * check annual Spotify Wrapped summaries. Things like videos and short looped music videos displayed during song playback will be limited. Meanwhile, the most important role will be played by the parent, who can: * block songs classified as explicit (marked with an E), * restrict playback of specific artists and songs, * manage the child's account settings. Also important is the lack of visibility of the youngest accounts - other users cannot search for them via the search engine. These profiles also cannot send or receive messages, make purchases, or set their own profile picture.

Spotify prepares its own Shazam to recognize music without leaving the app.

Spotify prepares its own Shazam to recognize music without leaving the app. As one of the most used music streaming apps, Spotify seeks to innovate and fill itself with improvements. This may be reinforced soon with an improvement that is being prepared. Spotify prepares its own Shazam to recognize music without leaving the app. Spotify prepares its own Shazam. Shazam is an application that many use to identify songs that are playing in bars, stadiums, nightclubs, or anywhere. Basically, it allows the phone to listen to the song you want to identify and then tells you the name and the artist. However, this function can also be performed by other applications and is even integrated into some phones, such as the "Play Now" feature on the Google Pixel. It is strange that Spotify, the music app preferred by so many users, does not have this feature. However, this is about to change, as the code in its recent version 9.1.70.1086 indicates that a music identifier will be added. It is clear that Spotify is working on a feature to identify songs playing near the user, similar to Shazam. This new feature is not yet available, nor has it been confirmed by the music platform itself. Instead, it appears in the code of version 9.1.70.1086 of the app, which was analyzed very thoroughly. The code shows several text sequences that reveal how it works. It will serve to recognize music without leaving the app. Among the lines of text, we find some that explicitly state that a song is being analyzed or even what Spotify will report when it cannot find it. The platform will use the phone's microphone to listen to a snippet of the song, analyze it, and search for a match in its catalog. Obviously, it is still impossible to know where the identification button will be located or exactly how the platform will discover the song, since its existence has not been confirmed. Furthermore, it was only discovered in the code of the Android version, but it is likely that the feature will also come to iOS in the future. The integration of an identifier by Spotify offers a clear advantage to its users. This means that when finding the name of a song, the platform allows users to add it more easily to their favorites list without having to switch apps.

Spotify takes a swing at YouTube and MTV with daily Top 50 music video chart.

Spotify takes a swing at YouTube and MTV with daily Top 50 music video chart. Spotify is adding a new category in its Charts with videos for the most-streamed music. Jul 23, 2026 - 5:55 AM ET * 0 Shares Tushar Mehta / SoundGuys * Spotify is expanding its video program, now allowing artists to pitch their videos for personalized playlists. * Alongside personalized video playlists, Spotify will also release a daily Top 50 leaderboard for the most played songs globally. * This will be refreshed every day, along with special weekly mentions for the top 10 videos on Spotify's social channels. After launching the program last year with a select few artists, Spotify has been doubling down on videos inside the app and recently launched a new platform that allows artists of all sizes to upload full-length videos directly. In its latest announcement, Spotify said that nearly 100,000 artists are now able to upload videos, and that includes original as well as cover artists. For listeners, Spotify is working on new ways to discover videos, including a new video playlist feature, with a curated list of videos the platform thinks you would like. While this is personalized to the users' taste, Spotify is also kicking off its new video charts based on global listening and watching patterns. Spotify recently announced key details about "Music Video Charts Global," which will list the top 50 music videos based on the number of streams per day. This leaderboard is not decided solely based on the number of views a music video gets, but also the number of times an audio track is played. It gets refreshed every morning at 6 AM ET. Every Tuesday, Spotify's official social media channels also highlight the top 10 music videos. To access video charts, you go to the Search tab inside Spotify and scroll down to Charts. Once you tap and open the Charts section, you'll see video charts right on top. You may not see any videos there, but the results should start populating soon. A similar feature is already available within YouTube Music's Explore section. The music streaming giant says this new move will help artists boost their streams further. It claims that songs with full-length videos get 64% more streams on the audio for up to three weeks from when listeners watch the video. They're also 57% more likely to revisit an audio track after they've seen a video. However, artists must actively "pitch" their videos to the selection team ahead of release, or within seven days after, for them to be considered for playlists. All of these options are available through Spotify for Artists.

Spotify AI chatbot: explore music & podcasts with new feature.

Spotify AI chatbot: explore music & podcasts with new feature. Summary. Spotify is experimenting with a new AI chatbot feature. This allows Premium subscribers to explore music, audiobooks, and podcasts through conversations. The "Talk to Spotify" feature appears in the Home and Now Playing views on the mobile app. Users can type requests or speak into the mic. What's interesting is that this chatbot goes beyond simple recommendations. It references your playlists, favorite artists, and listening data. This means you can ask about your own listening history, like when you first heard a specific song. The updated AI is more conversational than older features. You can ask it to "play some songs I haven't heard before" and then give further instructions. Spotify says this new experience aims to make the platform "more personal and useful." You can also ask general questions about what you're listening to, like a song's release date. This update is rolling out gradually in beta for Premium users in the US, Ireland, and Sweden who are 18 or older. It's available on both iOS and Android devices in English. This could change how you interact with your favorite audio content. This is an AI-generated audio summary. Always check the original source for complete reporting.

Spotify tests interactive genre filters for personalized music playlists.

Spotify tests interactive genre filters for personalized music playlists. Spotify is testing a new design for genre filters in certain personalized playlists. Instead of static genre names, it uses more descriptive phrases that turn customization into actionable prompts for users. Instead of showing basic musical genres like Indie, Hyperpop, or Dance, some users now encounter interactive prompts. The updated interface includes phrases such as "Make it more dance," "Deep dive into indie," and "Lean into hyperpop." This experimental feature is currently available only to a small test group of accounts. So far, the interface update has mainly been seen within the personalized Discover Weekly playlist, although initial rollouts are also starting to appear on the Release Radar playlist. This update enhances the clarity of recommendation filters but increases the size of text elements on the screen. As a result, users need to scroll horizontally longer to see all options. This change might divide users: some will appreciate the more descriptive filter explanations, while others may find the more cluttered, less straightforward interface less appealing. Along with the descriptive genre tests, Spotify revealed a separate, more comprehensive update for its Release Radar playlist. This update introduces a refreshed visual layout alongside additional filtering controls. New organizational categories include: * Discover new artists * Editors' choices * Ambient music These new Release Radar filters are now widely available and are rolling out globally on both the mobile app and desktop client. This update aligns with Spotify's ongoing efforts to use sophisticated algorithmic sorting methods to help users better manage their automated music discovery feeds.
