Requirements
  • A master's degree is required in business or data analytics, computer science, industrial engineering, information systems, information technology, operations management, operations research, or a closely related field.
  • Significant expertise and relevant professional and/or instructional experience is required in business or data analytics, computer science, industrial engineering, information systems, information technology, operations management, operations research, or a closely related field.
  • Experience providing instruction to adult learners in an academic or corporate setting is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence communicating and collaborating in digital environments is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for a diverse student population is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding William & Mary's historic reputation for academic excellence and innovation is required.
  • A resume, cover letter, teaching statement, and unofficial transcripts reflecting a degree associated with the subject area taught must be submitted.
  • Hired candidates must provide official transcripts before the contracted start date.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain frequent and open communication with William & Mary faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, and other appropriate media.
  • Complete online instructor orientation and technology training before teaching online for the Mason School and complete continuing training each year afterward.
  • Review the course syllabus, content, activities, and assignments before the term start date.
  • Adhere to the course design, instructional and grading guidelines, and due dates.
  • Post a minimum of two weekly announcements relevant to course content and learning activities.
  • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Provide timely, personalized, and substantive feedback on graded assignment submissions.
  • Grade assignments and exams according to the instructions and rubrics provided by the Faculty Lead within 48 to 72 hours.
  • Monitor and participate in weekly discussion boards.
  • Offer virtual office hours totaling at least one hour per week for individual or group consultation and communicate the schedule through announcements and the course calendar.
  • Monitor student progress and notify the Faculty Lead when a student is unresponsive or at risk of failing.
  • Meet weekly with the Faculty Lead during regularly scheduled calls throughout the course.
  • Submit final grades to the Faculty Lead according to William & Mary and Mason School grading policies and the Online Programs calendar.
  • Submit the Section Lead end-of-semester reflection form and attend debriefing meetings as applicable.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree directly related to the discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching adult learners in a professional degree program is preferred.
  • Experience providing online instruction is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for delivering education in an online mode is preferred.
  • Proficiency using video conferencing technologies and web-based collaboration platforms is preferred.
  • Experience using Canvas or a similar learning management system is preferred.
