Requirements
  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant subject area such as Child Life, Child Development, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology or other related field.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Child Life Services team of 28 staff at American Family Children’s Hospital to promote positive experiences and reduce anxiety for pediatric patients and families across inpatient units, clinics, Emergency Department, procedural areas, Burn Unit, and palliative care.
  • Oversee and support programs and services including Special events/activities, Music therapy, Tyler’s Place (sibling care), The Positive Image Center, Playroom, Hospital School, and Canine Health and Medical Pals (CHAMPS) program.
  • Provide leadership for coping and developmental support to protect patients’ emotional safety and empower children and families throughout their healthcare journey.
  • Direct the delivery of child life interventions and ensure high-quality patient care, coordination with interdisciplinary teams, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set goals, budgets, and program development to expand services and improve patient outcomes.
  • Supervise scheduling, performance management, and professional development of staff; ensure coverage across a variety of settings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Child Life, Child Development or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Health Care Administration acceptable if Bachelor’s degree is in Child Life, Child Development or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist by the Association of Child Life Professionals (preferred).
  • Experience in an academic setting including both inpatient and outpatient (preferred).
