Requirements
  • Associate’s degree required, along with a minimum of 3 years of Oncology data abstraction experience in a healthcare clinical or cancer registry setting.
  • Oncology Data Specialist–Certified (ODS-C) is required.
  • Experience with data submission to National Cancer Database (NCDB), edit resolution, and knowledge of Cancer Program Practice Profile Reports (CP3R) or Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS) reporting standards.
  • Working knowledge of American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging, solid tumor rules, Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Summary Staging, and case finding best practices.
  • Prior involvement in Commission on Cancer accreditation cycles and cancer committee participation
  • Experience with abstraction software and registry tools such as METRIQ, Abstract Plus, OncoLog, or CRStar.
  • Demonstrates ability to build and sustain strategic partnerships, both internally and externally, to drive high-impact educational initiatives.
  • Demonstrated expertise with state-specific Oncology abstraction and submission requirements, with an emphasis on translating these complexities into effective training for Clinical Leadership Team members. Experience developing education around state reporting nuances
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align training initiatives with organizational and quality goals.
  • Expertise in designing, developing, and implementing adult education and training programs that drive measurable performance outcomes, including clinical education initiatives focused on improving abstraction accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex clinical and regulatory information to diverse audiences.
  • Skilled collaborator with demonstrated success partnering across teams and functions.
  • Strong project management skills with experience delivering high-impact training programs from concept through evaluation.
  • Comfort using performance metrics and feedback loops to assess and refine training effectiveness.
  • Ability to manage evolving priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams, and instructional design platforms (e.g., Articulate Rise); able to quickly learn new tools as needed.
  • Passion for helping others through education and teaching.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on CoC standards and Oncology registry abstraction, applying deep understanding of how regulatory standards influence abstraction workflows and outcomes.
  • Lead Oncology-specific Clinical Governance Councils (CGCs) to support collaborative clinical decision-making and elevate abstraction accuracy.
  • Design and deliver continuing education content to meet role-specific requirements, with attention to evolving standards and abstraction quality trends, for internal and external use.
  • Develop and present oncology-related educational content at national and state/regional conferences and meetings to promote Q-Centrix’s brand and subject matter leadership.
  • Monitor changes in Oncology registry specifications and lead proactive education efforts—including the annual version change—by developing and delivering impactful training to ensure alignment, compliance, and consistent understanding of updated standards across internal (and potentially external) audiences.
  • Lead the development of a robust onboarding and continuing education curriculum for Senior Clinical Data Specialist hires to promote high-performance and retention.
  • Support Oncology student practicum opportunities, building and maintaining partnerships with schools to grow the future talent pipeline.
  • Create and deliver an exam support and preparation program to help team members prepare for the Oncology Data Specialist–Certified (ODS-C) exam.
  • Support strategic engagement and partnerships with ODS-C school programs to enhance talent development and institutional relationships.
  • Develop and maintain educational content, including manuals, job aids, e-learning, multimedia, and live instruction—especially as related to Oncology abstraction and registry education.
  • Provide registry education to managers, helping them understand the Oncology registry landscape and abstraction process.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on CoC standards and program management, along with state-specific requirements, creating and providing education and resources to support our team members’ expertise in delivering services to our hospital partners.
  • Collaborate with the Q-Centrix Institute to develop/enhance training materials.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health administration, or healthcare management; additional qualifications in strategic management or business administration preferred.
  • Experience developing CE-accredited programs and presenting at National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) or similar conferences.
  • Prior role as a Site Data Manager/leadership position in a CoC-accredited program.
  • Skilled in analyzing data to assess training effectiveness and using those insights to make smart, data-driven changes that improve results.
  • Advanced Project and Process Management: Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with the Articulate Rise platform; LMS platforms such as Cornerstone is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role.
