Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic handyman experience and skills are required.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for long periods is required.
  • The employee must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and social services organization.
Responsibilities
  • Perform light repairs and general building maintenance, including work on door knobs, handles, and cabinet hardware.
  • Replace lightbulbs, ceiling tiles, smoke-detector batteries, and filters as needed.
  • Assist with upkeep and organization of building fixtures and equipment.
  • Perform periodic walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate larger repair needs with corps officers and external vendors.
  • Maintain records of completed repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with seasonal or special projects such as weatherproofing.
  • Maintain the interior building daily and keep it orderly.
  • Maintain and upkeep the outdoor areas surrounding the building.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the grounds surrounding corps properties, including parking lots, walkways, lawns, and dumpster areas.
  • Assist in providing direction to community service workers and maintenance volunteers.
  • Maintain order and organization in storage and loading/unloading areas.
  • Assist with the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of corps vehicles.
  • Use a Salvation Army vehicle to pick up donations, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Load, transport, and unload food items from a local food bank to the Corps, using invoices to validate stock requirements.
  • Assist with acquiring, organizing, and distributing donated and purchased food for corps programs.
  • Set up, organize, and clean up equipment for special events.
  • Clear snow and ice from exterior areas, sidewalks, and parking lots during winter to ensure safe access for staff and visitors.
  • Assume seasonal full-time status during Christmas to assist with kettles, holiday programming, and distribution.
  • Drive bellringers to kettle locations and transport pertinent items needed at each location.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.
