Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic handyman experience and skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization.
Responsibilities
  • Perform light repairs and general building maintenance (e.g., door knobs, handles, cabinet hardware).
  • Replace lightbulbs, ceiling tiles, batteries (smoke detectors), and filters as needed.
  • Assist in upkeep and organization of building fixtures and equipment.
  • Perform periodic walkthroughs to identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate larger repair needs with corps officers and external vendors.
  • Maintain records of repairs and maintenance tasks completed.
  • Assist with seasonal or special projects, such as weatherproofing.
  • Daily responsibility for the maintenance and order of the interior building.
  • General maintenance and upkeep of the outdoor surrounding areas of the building.
  • Daily responsibility for the maintenance and cleanliness of the grounds, surrounding the corps properties including the parking lots, walkways, lawns dumpster area, etc.
  • Assist in providing direction to community service workers and maintenance volunteers.
  • Maintain order and organization in the storage and loading/unloading areas.
  • Assist in the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of corps vehicles.
  • Utilize Salvation Army vehicle to pick up donations, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Load, transport, and unload food items from local Food Bank to Corps, referencing invoice to validate stock requirements.
  • Assist in the acquisition, organization and distribution of donated and purchased food for corps programs.
  • Set up, organize, and clean up equipment for special events.
  • Responsible for seasonal upkeep of exterior areas, including clearing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots during the winter months to ensure safe access for staff and visitors.
  • Assume seasonal full-time status (Christmas) for assistance with kettles and holiday programming and distribution. This includes driving bellringers to their kettle locations as well as carting pertinent items needed at each location.
  • Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.
