Requirements
  • Education sufficient to obtain registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Keyboard skills and the ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
  • National registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiology or Nuclear Medicine.
  • Computed tomography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required within six months of job placement.
  • A current state license in Radiography or Nuclear Medicine is required for employees who perform this job in Oregon.
  • A current Radiologic Technologist Certification is required for employees who perform this job in Washington.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Competency in the field of computed tomography.
Responsibilities
  • Perform imaging procedures according to physician orders, using knowledge and judgment regarding exposure factors, imaging technique, and patient treatment.
  • Provide quality images accurately and efficiently using appropriate skills, knowledge, and equipment.
  • Position patients for diagnostic imaging according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements.
  • Operate imaging equipment, determine and set exposure factors, and select techniques that produce accurate, quality images with minimal acceptable repeat rates.
  • Use computer image processing to select and optimize images.
  • Process and present images and related patient information to the radiologist for diagnosis.
  • Assist with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
  • Identify patients by checking identification, full name, and medical record number according to department procedure.
  • Review patient charts and orders to ensure the correct examination.
  • Label images completely with demographic, position, and other required documentation.
  • Log activities, gather charging information, and charge examinations as required.
  • Follow department and hospital procedures and policies.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance, record results, and report variances from normal equipment function.
  • Perform medication reconciliation for patients receiving intravenous contrast media.
  • Protect patients and others in the area by using proper machine settings and radiation safety standards.
  • Practice universal, blood and body fluid, and sterile precautions according to procedures.
  • Use knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to provide appropriate and effective care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Maintain awareness of patient status and take appropriate actions to meet patient needs.
  • Start intravenous lines using proper technique and administer medications under the direction of the licensed independent practitioner.
  • Inform and educate patients and families about needed information concerning the examination performed.
  • Use professional judgment and present a competent professional image to customers and staff.
  • Maintain professional appearance, punctuality, flexibility, confidentiality, and guest relations.
  • Handle stressful situations in ways that promote positive outcomes.
  • Maintain current education in assigned specialty areas through journals, books, in-service seminars, and similar activities.
  • Participate in presenting professional information to colleagues.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of previous experience in the field of computed tomography is preferred.
