Requirements
  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist or eligible to sit for the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) examination; education background acceptable includes being a graduate of a formal university, college or hospital-based dosimetry program; or ARRT Registered Radiation Therapist; or a bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences.
Responsibilities
  • Design a treatment plan by means of computer and/or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription; plans include 2D planning, 3D conformal planning, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy/Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy planning, four-dimensional planning, and Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy planning.
  • Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures by using images from one or more data sets, with proficiency in image registration involving CT, MRI, and PET datasets.
  • Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery, including digitally reconstructed radiographs, cone-beam computed tomography, and other image-guided radiotherapy methods.
  • Oversee, perform, or assist in simulations and tumor localization using imaging devices such as CT, MRI, and PET.
