Requirements
  • Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse license issued by Missouri Division of Professional Registration OR Registered Nurse license issued by Compact State OR Registered Nurse license issued by Oklahoma Board of Nursing OR Registered Nurse license issued by Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
  • Must be licensed to practice in required states as applicable for work location (Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin)
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain currency in hospital/unit information, policies and procedures and maintain up to date BLS and other applicable certifications
  • Possession of current license and certifications as per annual requirements including Basic Life Support, Health Care Provider, and any state-specific nursing licenses
Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment, including age-appropriate admission assessment or transfer assessment, obtaining input from family or guardian when appropriate, documenting findings, assessing post-operative or post-invasive procedure patients, assessing and documenting education and discharge needs of patient and family on admission and throughout hospitalization, and documenting patient reassessment according to plan of care and standards of care.
  • Establishes, coordinates and evaluates a plan of care based on analysis of assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols and standards of care and other information as relevant, identifying short and long term goals, formulating nursing interventions to achieve desired patient outcome, incorporating disease-specific evidenced-based practice into nursing care plan and documentation.
  • Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status, including collaborating with health team members for coordination of daily plan of care, providing, coordinating and communicating patient care including accurate handoff communication, administering and documenting medications according to policies and procedures, monitoring IV fluids and parenteral nutrition, completing referrals, requesting consultations for special needs, providing patient/family education and discharge planning, clarifying physician orders, acknowledging and implementing orders in timely manner, assisting physician with procedures or delegating to Care Partner, documenting readback for telephone/verbal orders, taking telephone/verbal orders only in emergency situations, recognizing changes in patient condition and taking appropriate nursing actions, involving family/guardian in care and decision-making, recognizing risks and incorporating infection control practices.
  • Documents and or communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition, including ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of care, evaluating patient/family education, modifying plan of care as indicated, reporting significant changes in clinical parameters, identifying problems and proposing solutions, reporting variations from care following occurrence policy.
  • Specialized Care: Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury with subitems A through M (restraint care, pain management, abuse assessment) including restraint use policies, pain assessment and management strategies, abuse recognition and reporting criteria.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice including adherence to quality standards, participating in learning experiences, maintaining currency, attending meetings, contributing to governance and unit practice activities, adapting to changing demands, coordinating with peers and teams, providing handoff and professional supervision.
  • Ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and appropriate manner including orienting/precepting new employees, collaborative team approach, acting as resource, delegating and coordinating care, communicating plan of care, supervising students/new staff, etc.
  • Safety/Infection Control: Performs job in accordance with safety and infection control policies including standard precautions, safe environment, hand hygiene, Safe Patient Handling, reporting risk management concerns, completing mandatory annual requirements (license, BLS, TB, influenza, ethics, safety, information security, abuse/neglect, bloodborne pathogens, etc.).
  • Service: Provides service excellence with courteous and respectful care, effective communication and confidentiality, competence and collaboration, cost-efficient services, ensuring customer satisfaction through hospital principles and commitments, AIDET and One Mission One Spirit.
  • Incorporates Performance Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice into individual professional practice including developing unit goals, staying current with evidenced based initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement, participating in performance improvement processes, leading teams, contributing to data collection and evaluation, participating in nursing research and quality indicators.
  • Age Appropriate Care: Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and age-specific data interpretation, involves family in decision making, provides age-appropriate services.
