Requirements
  • 2+ years’ experience in a retail service setting as a manager or a graduate of the Best Seller Program
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong communication skills and customer service abilities
  • Basic reading, writing and accounting skills
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Food handling experience is preferred
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a cafe or retail setting is implied by manager role
Responsibilities
  • Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team
  • Manage daily activities of the cafe by leading and training team members to service customers; ensure the availability, freshness, and quality of products; and drive sales and promotions
  • Be knowledgeable about cafe and store operations, provide outstanding customer service; enforce safe food handling and loss prevention practices; and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the cafe
  • Spend majority of time in the cafe preparing food and drinks, modeling exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, recommending products, and providing daily support, direction, and guidance to team members
  • Assign work and provide focused direction to café team members to ensure setup and restocking of displays, wrapping, labeling, dating, and rotating food items for sale daily
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints and escalate to senior management when necessary
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning, sanitation, and operational standards (food handling certification may be required)
  • Manage the inventory, stock, and rotation of perishable items
  • Operate equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies and perform preventive maintenance
  • Replenish customer service stations, order/receive supplies or products, and take out trash
  • Assist with processing sales transactions and/or with training team members to complete transactions
  • Conduct regular meetings with team to provide feedback on sales and upcoming promotions
  • Full-time positions require availability to work at least 30 hours on a weekly basis year round; schedules may be set or vary to meet the needs of the store

Barnes & Noble Education posts $6.7M profit in fiscal Q3 with $515.1M revenue

Barnes & Noble Education reported a fiscal third-quarter profit of $6.7 million, or 19 cents per share. Adjusted earnings came to 23 cents per share, whilst the Florham Park, New Jersey-based company posted revenue of $515.1 million for the period. The campus bookstore operator's shares have declined 9% since the beginning of the year. In Tuesday's final minutes of trading, shares hit $8.36, representing a 3% fall over the past 12 months.

Barnes & Noble Education reported a fiscal first-quarter loss of $18.3 million, or 54 cents per share. Adjusted losses were 47 cents per share, whilst revenue reached $288.2 million.
