The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Research Project Manager to oversee the daily operations in a Sleep-cardiovascular research program including a wet laboratory and clinical human studies. They have the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Primarily responsible for oversight of daily laboratory operations and laboratory safety compliance
- Provides staff training and supervision
- Orders and maintains laboratory supplies and lab equipment
- Maintains laboratory notebooks for quality control and analysis
- Prepares and maintains stock biochemical and molecular biology reagents
- Participates and assists in human studies including vascular reactivity studies and biopsy procedures
- Occasionally contacts research participants and participates in follow up visits in collaboration with research coordinators
- Participates in planning, design, implementation and management of research projects
- Plans, designs and executes experiments including confocal microscopy and immunohistochemistry techniques
- Laser captures transfections sequencing, transfection of cell lines with DNA constructs, DNA extraction, cell separation/cultures, cytokines measurement, and immunoblots
- Collects, analyzes and interprets research data
- Performs critical analysis of research literature
- Assists with preparation of grants, publications, abstracts, and presentations
- Collaborates with principal investigator to develop general goals of new research projects
- Constructs manuscripts.
- Process samples and executes experiments on human tissue and blood including freshly procured vascular and subcutaneous tissue; blood, and serum
- Performs molecular biology procedures and immunologic assays including: Western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, PCR for mRNA analysis
- Performs laboratory techniques to isolate endothelial cells, peripheral blood cell lines; and perform and maintain cell cultures
- Performs other duties as requested
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

A master’s degree is required; a Doctoral Degree is preferred. One to three years of biomedical research with tissue culture; cell biology; and PCR as well as microscopy techniques are required. Experience in human research is preferred (with HIPPA; CITI; IRB experience).
