Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent with relevant youth work or volunteer experience required.
  • Computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a role model of academic success, good character, citizenship, and healthy life skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible.
  • Must be energetic, organized, dependable, and compassionate.
  • Must have a genuine interest and ability to relate to youth and earn their respect.
  • Must have a realistic understanding of community life and the forces influencing youth.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills, and be understandable and relevant to young people.
  • Must have maturity, self-control, sound judgment, leadership, a sense of humor, and patience.
  • Must share a vision for The Salvation Army's philosophy for youth ministry.
  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Will respect and promote the interests of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but they are required to promote and respect The Salvation Army's mission.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating and implementing programs that enhance youth members’ spiritual, physical, and emotional development.
  • Attend and chaperone Corps, Divisional, and Territorial retreats and events.
  • Complete accident or incident reports, in accordance with procedures.
  • Complete any required or mandated training and professional development.
  • Complete daily reports on department activities and attendance.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with young adults and teens at local colleges and high schools, where permitted.
  • Develop and maintain practical approaches to fostering solid Christian living among children, teens, and younger adults.
  • Engage and inform parents about community resources, opportunities, and youth members’ expectations.
  • Help with summer Vacation Bible School outreach.
  • Implement and actively supervise programs, services, and activities for youth members.
  • Promote a physically and emotionally safe environment for youth members.
  • Provide guidance and positive role modeling to youth members.
  • Provide homework and power-hour support.
  • Stimulate youth members’ interest and positive participation in activities.
  • Work with employees and officers on special events and programs in other areas of the Corps.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
