Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in business analysis, including complex information technology and enterprise system implementation projects, is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience serving in a team lead, supervisory, or project leadership role is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business analysis frameworks, including the BABOK Guide, Agile analysis practices, and requirements engineering methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of process modeling techniques including Business Process Model and Notation, Unified Modeling Language use cases, swim lane diagrams, and data flow diagrams.
  • Knowledge of Project Management Body of Knowledge standards and familiarity with Agile/Scrum frameworks as they apply to business analysis workstreams.
  • Familiarity with Information Technology Service Management and Information Technology Infrastructure Library frameworks as applied to business and technology alignment.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and structured problem-solving skills, with the ability to decompose complex problems into actionable requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and vice versa.
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to lead workshops, resolve conflicts, and drive consensus across diverse groups.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to build collaborative relationships across university departments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong professional integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive institutional data and processes.
  • Ability to analyze, query, and interpret data to validate business requirements and assess solution effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems commonly found in higher education, including enterprise resource planning and student information system platforms, customer relationship management systems, learning management systems, and financial aid systems.
  • Proficiency with enterprise project management and requirements management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, and Azure DevOps.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles, user acceptance testing practices, and testing methodology as applied to business analysis.
  • Skills in organizational change management, training needs assessment, and stakeholder communication planning.
  • Ability to work effectively at a computer for extended periods, sit or stand for extended periods, lift or carry typical office items, and perform repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements. Regular attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead requirements elicitation sessions through interviews, workshops, surveys, and observation to identify business needs, process gaps, and functional specifications.
  • Develop and maintain requirements documentation, including Business Requirements Documents, functional specifications, use cases, and process flow diagrams.
  • Conduct gap analyses, feasibility assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to inform solution selection and project scope decisions.
  • Facilitate process mapping and modeling sessions using standard notation such as Business Process Model and Notation to document current-state and future-state workflows.
  • Define and manage requirement traceability throughout the project lifecycle to ensure delivered solutions meet documented business needs.
  • Develop acceptance criteria and support user acceptance testing planning, execution, and defect tracking with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Translate complex technical concepts and solution designs into clear language for non-technical audiences, including executive stakeholders.
  • Present analysis deliverables, findings, and recommendations to project steering committees, information technology leadership, and executive stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project managers to define project scope, schedule inputs, resource needs, and risk factors related to business analysis workstreams.
  • Manage project change requests and scope change processes by assessing business impact, facilitating approvals, and updating documentation.
  • Support system implementation projects through data migration planning, system configuration reviews, and integration validation activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of enterprise systems and participate in vendor evaluation and selection processes.
  • Serve as team lead for business analysis staff by providing day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and quality oversight.
  • Assign and monitor work for junior business analysts to align with project timelines, PMO standards, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Review and approve requirements documentation, process models, and other business analysis artifacts produced by team members.
  • Lead onboarding and skills development for new business analysts and establish standard practices and tool proficiency across the team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of PMO business analysis frameworks, templates, and methodologies.
  • Participate in PMO governance activities, status reporting, and portfolio-level planning sessions as a business analysis subject matter expert.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Project Management to align business analyst team capacity with project portfolio demands and institutional priorities.
  • Support the university’s mission and model its values and service-excellence culture.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Partner with information technology leadership and institutional stakeholders to align business analysis efforts with strategic priorities and the technology roadmap.
  • Communicate with all levels of management and personnel and produce clear written documentation.
  • Work collaboratively throughout the Software Development Life Cycle, including business process analysis, solution design support, requirements gathering, testing, and documentation for enterprise software and integrated systems.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce redundancy, and improve operational efficiency through technology solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of higher education technology trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging business analysis and process improvement practices.
  • Adapt analysis approaches and communication styles to diverse stakeholder groups across academic, administrative, and technical functions.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional or PMI Professional in Business Analysis certification is preferred.
  • Project Management Professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience working within a Project Management Office environment is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex multi-stakeholder institutional environments is preferred.
