Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering, Energy Systems or a closely related field and two years of experience in energy efficiency design and implementation or two years of ESCO experience OR Master’s degree in Energy Engineering, Energy Systems or a closely related field and demonstrated knowledge of energy efficiency design and implementation or demonstrated knowledge of ESCO.
  • Knowledge of lighting, HVAC systems, building automation systems, combined heat and/or power systems.
  • Knowledge of energy code standards for existing building and new construction codes such as ASHRAE 90.1 (incl. Appendix G), ASHRAE 62.1, LEED/WELL, IECC, and/or other Green Building standards.
  • At least one of the following energy modeling tools: TRACE 700, TRACE 3D+, eQuest, Carrier HAP, Ekotrope and/or EnergyPlus.
Responsibilities
  • Utilize specialized knowledge of residential building science, applying disciplinary concepts and tools to perform residential building energy modeling, energy cost savings, and cost-effectiveness analysis, and using the modeling and assessed results to develop analysis and provide advisory solutions for programs designed to improve efficiency of buildings and reduce associated emissions.
  • Use industry standard modeling software in order to quantity energy use in buildings.
  • Work collaboratively with clients to iterate on modeling assumptions and measures to be able to develop new versions of programs which meet requirements (e.g., savings targets).
  • Summarize analysis results using excel spreadsheets, python, and R in order to effectively communicate results to clients.
  • Document analysis assumptions, methodologies, and results in reports to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Monitor national and local energy code updates, policy regulation changes, and trends in order to assess how these changes affect residential building construction.
  • Perform economic analysis of construction costs including researching incremental costs of building upgrades, and calculation life cycle costs of upgrades in order to assess cost-effectiveness of programs.
  • Produce insightful responses to builders, Home Energy Raters, and other program partners who have questions on how to meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
  • Provide formal written recommendations to EPA on program policy changes based on program partners’ inquiries and independent research in order to improve program requirements.
  • Provide continual maintenance of program documents including updating documents to reflect new program policies, and providing thorough quality assurance so that documents accurately communicate requirements to partners.
