Requirements
  • Current New Jersey registered professional nurse license (RN) and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • School Nurse Certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education including coursework in special education, public health, school nursing, and child/adolescent development and clinical experience in a supervised school nurse practicum.
  • CPR and AED certification.
  • Naloxone training and familiarity with New Jersey law regarding use of naloxone as part of a school district’s emergency response plan.
Responsibilities
  • Respond to medical emergencies, administering first aid and assessing students for illness, including determining the potential of contagious conditions that require immediate treatment and isolation from other students.
  • Administer medication to students with ongoing health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, etc.
  • Conduct mandated screenings of vision, hearing, and height/weight.
  • Implement care plans for students with physical and emotional disabilities, ensuring that appropriate accommodations are made in accordance with Federal law.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, including updates of all immunizations and health screenings.
  • Train school staff on a variety of health issues, and serve on school and district committees to address student behavior and achievement.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations regarding school health subject areas and make recommendations for changes when necessary.
  • Function as an ambassador for The Fedcap Group
Desired Qualifications
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a school setting is strongly preferred.
