Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and recent related experience.
  • Broad knowledge of federal and state accounting regulations and university accounting procedures.
  • Ability to monitor and reconcile accounts and prepare financial reports and statements.
  • Ability to interact with the university community, state agencies, and vendors.
  • Ability to compose correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to maintain accurate accounting records.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and act on decisions within the scope of delegated authority.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complex professional accounting work involving recording, analyzing, reconciling, and monitoring local and state funds and transactions in accordance with federal, state, and university guidelines.
  • Review and reconcile complex accounts, including the university's operating and disbursement account and state appropriations; research discrepancies and issues; and provide accounting and technical guidance to other university departments to resolve reconciling items.
  • Supervise the university's banking operation and serve as campus liaison with Texas A&M University System Banking for banking transactions and reporting.
  • Review and analyze bank transaction data, communicate with university departments to ensure transactions are properly recorded, and research and resolve issues.
  • Calculate weekly tuition deposits to the State Treasury, calculate Texas Public Educational Grant transfer amounts, and prepare periodic tuition split comparisons.
  • Supervise staff preparing general ledger entries for online store and point-of-sale revenues and the sales tax return; coordinate security for the point-of-sale banking application, including user accounts and access privileges.
  • Prepare state accounting entries in compliance with accounting policy statements and fiscal policies and procedures; review state transaction data; and monitor fund balances.
  • Assist the Manager of Financial Reporting with fiscal year-end journal entries and reports.
  • Gather and prepare statistical data for management analysis.
  • Report unclaimed property to the State Comptroller annually.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
