Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of military or security experience is required.
  • The candidate must be able to exercise physical restraint.
  • The candidate may be required to have a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • The candidate must have good verbal communication and public relations skills.
  • The candidate must be able to operate and be proficient in using a two-way radio system.
  • The candidate must be able to professionally and calmly handle emergencies.
  • The candidate must be able to become TSA certified within one year.
  • The candidate must have working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint or other productivity software.
  • The candidate must demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • The candidate must be able to provide effective customer service and build interpersonal relationships with staff, faculty, students, and campus visitors.
  • The candidate must be able to work some evening hours as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all museum security and safety guidelines and procedures are adhered to and followed appropriately.
  • Patrol gallery spaces, making observations to detect and deter unauthorized persons or activities and unsafe conditions.
  • Watch over visitors, staff, museum assets, and equipment.
  • Maintain order and secure conditions within the museum.
  • Monitor surveillance systems such as the closed-circuit television system.
  • Coach and mentor student Gallery Attendant staff, providing guidance and redirection to support high-quality customer service standards.
  • Follow organizational guidelines when reporting security-related information.
  • Monitor and operate the facility security access-control card system.
  • Monitor facility fire alarm systems.
  • Report hazardous conditions or irregularities to appropriate museum personnel.
  • Manage the museum lost-and-found services.
  • Provide restraint under lawful direction and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.
  • Investigate and write reports on incidents, accidents, property damage, and similar matters.
  • Serve as an information conduit for University Police or Emergency Medical Services following facility alarms, medical emergencies, and museum policy-compliance issues.
  • Report maintenance, custodial, elevator, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning issues and place service calls when needed.
  • Receive, log, and distribute incoming mail, packages, and deliveries via United Parcel Service and FedEx carriers to museum employees.
  • Escort and monitor outside contractors and vendors while they provide services in high-security areas of the facility.
  • Direct and inform visitors about appropriate resources and provide customer service to patrons.
  • Handle museum admissions-desk functions, including ticketing and membership sales.
  • Operate museum point-of-sale and credit-card-machine systems.
  • Provide crowd control and security for special museum events and openings.
  • Ensure that visitors do not touch or photograph the artwork.
