Requirements
  • An associate degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program, or graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Certification in mammography.
  • Licensure by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED certification for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Zero to two years of independent mammography experience.
  • Ability to perform the specified standing, sitting, walking, stair climbing, bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, lifting, carrying, force-exertion, visual, hearing, tactile, sensory, and fine- and gross-motor functions required by the position.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex-safe environment, and qualify physically for respirator use.
Responsibilities
  • Operate a mammography unit to produce breast images for diagnostic purposes under the direction of a physician.
  • Explain procedures to patients, respond to inquiries, and position and immobilize the patient's breast in the unit.
  • Observe the scanning process and monitor the video display of the scanned area.
  • Adjust image density, contrast, and imaging apparatus to improve picture quality.
  • Review and evaluate film or image recording plates to determine whether images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Maintain patient records.
  • Follow physicians' directions for required images.
  • Use X-ray protection equipment and machinery to provide diagnostic pictures.
  • Retouch pictures as necessary.
