Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform cleaning tasks such as mopping, reaching, bending, and operating floor equipment including vacuum cleaners, autoscrubbers, and buffers.
  • Must meet the Department of Labor's Heavy Duty Standard.
  • Must be capable of wearing appropriate personal protective equipment for an extended period of time.
  • Must be able to work scheduled shifts based on the hospital's operational needs.
  • Must be able to understand assigned areas and the necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Must be able to read and follow written work assignments.
  • Must be able to work safely with exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and cleaning chemicals.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect and ensure that assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair, and report problems to the supervisor.
  • Clean assigned areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, operating rooms, offices, and equipment, according to established procedures.
  • Remove trash from assigned areas.
  • Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in assigned areas.
  • Make beds in patient discharge rooms and on-call rooms according to established cleaning procedures.
  • Maintain assigned equipment in clean, working condition and report problems and suggestions to the supervisor.
  • Move equipment, furniture, and boxes; wash walls; spot-clean carpets; and perform other assigned tasks.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable, through computer-based learning, training, in-service sessions, or competency validation.
