Requirements
  • ARRT certification in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology (R).
  • ARRT Advanced Certification in MRI, or documented MRI-specific training and experience as required by the facility.
  • An active, full, and unrestricted Radiologic Technologist license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • A minimum of three years of recent experience working in advanced imaging modalities, including computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MRI physics, safety, cross-sectional anatomy, PACS, and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift up to 20 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance, and push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of magnetic resonance imaging examinations, including contrast and non-contrast studies.
  • Prepare patients for imaging procedures by explaining exams, addressing questions, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Operate computed tomography and magnetic resonance equipment in accordance with established protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, imaging techniques, and safety principles.
  • Administer contrast agents and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Ensure adherence to MRI safety standards, including screening patients, staff, and equipment.
  • Evaluate images for quality and diagnostic accuracy before radiologist interpretation.
  • Document procedures, exam delays, and clinical notes in the VA electronic health record using CPRS/VistA.
  • Track and document reportable CT radiation doses as required.
  • Follow radiation safety, infection control, and patient safety protocols.
  • Communicate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, required meetings, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of imaging equipment and work areas.
  • Perform other related duties in support of imaging services.
