Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited Athletic Training Program.
  • Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) license in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and techniques used in effective program planning, design and administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of administrative and budgetary practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current methods, processes and techniques utilized in the implementation of athletic injury and illness prevention.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the methods used to develop contracts and manage external resources.
  • Ability to listen supportively to student athletes and their families.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to establish working relationships that foster optimal care for student athletes.
  • Ability to resolve problems and make recommendations for modifications as needed.
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of athletic training activities.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze data.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate presentations.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.
  • Conducts an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  • Assists with the care and prevention of athletic injuries in the scholastic athletic setting; provides wound care, stitch removal, and dressing changes.
  • Applies protective or injury preventative devices such as tape, bandages or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
  • Cares for athletic injuries using physical therapy techniques and equipment as needed.
  • Communicates injury and when necessary, follows up to parent/guardian of injured athlete.
  • Evaluates athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
  • Assesses and reports the progress of recovering athletes to Coaches, Assistant Directors and Physicians.
  • Collaborates with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
  • Performs duties in accordance with School District of Philadelphia values, policies, and procedures.
  • Travels with athletic teams to be available at sporting events as necessary.
