  • An Associate Degree in Surgical Technology from a National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting accredited program, certification from the National Center for Competency Testing, or four years of surgical technologist experience with a high school diploma.
  • Four years of applicable on-the-job or military surgical technology training with a high school diploma.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist is required within one year of hire if hired without certification.
  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in the primary specialty is preferred for the open heart and vascular scrub technologist role.
  • On-call availability is required with a 30-minute response time.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with direct care for patients undergoing surgical intervention by selecting, setting up, and passing sterile instruments to the surgeon and assistants under the direction of the registered nurse and surgeon.
  • Label and handle patient specimens appropriately.
  • Perform Surgical Technologist skills within the unit’s scope of practice.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment free from clutter.
  • Receive and respond to appropriate delegation and perform only skills and care delegated by a licensed nurse or physician.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate safe infection control practices.
  • Assist the nurse or physician with patient procedures.
  • Perform preceptor activities as requested.
  • Participate in one elective educational opportunity.
  • Apply aseptic technique when preparing for and assisting in surgical procedures.
  • Prepare the operating-room table and scrub for surgeries.
  • Provide necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
  • Acquire and demonstrate the skills needed to operate specialized equipment used in the operating room.
  • Assist with preoperative and postoperative care as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and provide necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with patient transport and other patient-care duties in the operating room.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in scrubbing for heart, vascular, endovascular, general surgery, robotics, and trauma procedures.
  • Experience with orthopedic, bariatric, ear-nose-throat, neuro/spine, ophthalmology, urology, and maxillofacial procedures.
