HCVT operates under a hybrid working model. Effective Jan 1, 2024, employees are expected to work at their assigned office a minimum of two days per week. In the event that this is not geographically reasonable, you may work in the office closest to your home. Additionally, we expect employees to participate in required firm events/meeting (e.g., trainings, team bonding, client meetings, etc.)

As an Intern in our State and Local Tax (SALT) service line, you will be responsible for the following:

Prepare state and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts and its related income tax work papers
Prepare indirect state tax returns for multiple entities
Prepare and respond to technical correspondences from taxing authorities
Identify accounting and income tax issues and proposes strategies to resolve them
Complete a variety of projects within engagement timeline and budget guidelines
Learn and effectively utilize firm tax preparation software to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance the quality of service to clients
Perform self-review of work
Perform tax technical research assigned by supervisors
Develop strong relationships with firm professionals
Participate in firm training and activities
Work with your buddy and performance manager on professional development of both technical and soft skills.

To be successful, these are the skills, qualities and experience you will need:

On track to completing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a master’s degree in accounting or taxation between December 2025 – July 2026
Available to work 40 hours a week from Mid-June through Mid-August
Minimum overall and accounting GPAs of 3.0
Active membership in Beta Alpha Psi or another campus accounting organization
Strong technical aptitude and demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
Exhibit leadership skills that demonstrate strong judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Able to learn in a fast paced environment and receptive to feedback and coaching
Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and take initiative on projects
High attention to detail
A positive attitude and is a team player mentality with a can-do spirit

This salary range is specific to the state(s) listed and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill set and education; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable salary estimate for this position is $35.00 per hour and it is eligible for a one-time program completion bonus.
