Requirements
  • Must hold at least a Master’s degree in Public Relations, or Communication Studies with expertise in Public Relations or a closely related field, in hand at the time a contract is offered
  • Ph.D. is preferred, but final appointment is dependent on a confirmed degree status; applicants who have not yet completed their degree must demonstrate progress verifiable by evidence and substantive enough to ensure completion of their degree at the time of appointment
  • Must be trained and able to teach courses in Public Relations to support the Public Relations minor and will be expected to propose new upper division courses to expand offerings in this area; ability to also teach introductory courses in the Communication Studies curriculum is preferred
  • Teaching load is 2/2 on a semester schedule
  • Hired candidate will be required to advise students in the Public Relations Minor and to advise the LMU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA); evidences experience advising students is preferred (e.g. course selection, developing time to degree (or graduation) plans, and providing students with academic and career mentoring)
Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Public Relations to support the Public Relations minor and propose new upper division courses to expand offerings in this area; also teach introductory courses in the Communication Studies curriculum as needed or preferred
  • Advise students in the Public Relations Minor and the LMU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), including assisting with course selection, degree planning, and providing academic and career mentoring
  • Enrich existing courses and develop new courses through innovative pedagogical approaches such as applied, experiential, community-based, or other inventive, critical, and anti-racist pedagogies
  • Contribute to the department through service and participate in curriculum development and assessment activities
Desired Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Public Relations or a closely related field is preferred
  • Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations)
  • Experience advising students in an academic setting (course selection, degree planning) and mentoring
  • Professional experience and skills in Public Relations that can inform teaching and advising
  • Commitment to inclusive excellence and the value of diverse professional and practical experiences; ability to articulate how they meet these requirements
