McDonald's reports $7.1B Q2 revenue with 0.8% US comps growth, CEO cites execution flaws

McDonald's reported second-quarter earnings with global same-store sales up 1.3% and US comparable sales rising just 0.8%. Consolidated revenue reached $7.1 billion, slightly missing expectations, whilst earnings per share beat forecasts by 6 cents at $3.32. CEO Chris Kempczinski attributed US weakness to operational execution problems, including an overcrowded promotional calendar and inconsistent franchisee pricing. The company appointed Skye Anderson as President of McDonald's USA to address these issues. Management outlined plans to improve food quality, overhaul the beverage platform, and optimise digital reward programmes. On 5 August, Bernstein SocGen Group lowered its price target to $295 from $310, citing prolonged traffic softness and delayed value recovery. The stock trades at 21 times earnings with a 2.7% dividend yield.

Six blue chips yield $54,000 annually on $920,000 without risky high-yield traps

A $920,000 portfolio of six blue-chip dividend stocks can generate approximately $54,000 in annual income whilst avoiding high-yield traps that erode capital over time, according to a recent analysis. The portfolio comprises five Dividend Kings or Aristocrats alongside one real estate investment trust. Johnson & Johnson yields roughly 2.3% after raising its dividend for the 64th consecutive year. Procter & Gamble offers about 3% after its 70th straight annual increase. Coca-Cola yields 2.5%, McDonald's approximately 2.6%, and PepsiCo close to 3.8% following its recent 4% hike. Realty Income provides the highest yield at 5.2%, having paid 670 consecutive monthly dividends whilst maintaining 99% portfolio occupancy. The strategy prioritises dividend growth over immediate high yields, which often signal unsustainable payouts from leveraged funds or mortgage REITs facing distribution cuts.

McDonald's in Hastings town centre re-opens after revamp.

McDonald's in Hastings town centre re-opens after revamp. By Andy Hemsley Published 13th Aug 2026, 10:19 BST Updated 13th Aug 2026, 14:49 BST The McDonald's in Hastings town centre has now re-opened after being closed for more than a month for a major re-vamp. McDonald's says the improvements involve a new restaurant layout and technology aimed at creating a better experience for customers. The changes include a front counter redesign which McDonald's says will make more space for customers to enjoy their meal, less congestion around touchscreens, and shorter queues. There is now a dedicated courier waiting area and entrance; a new kitchen design which includes a bigger order assembly area and dedicated areas to prepare dine in orders and redesigned crew rooms which the company says will create a more relaxing and comfortable space for staff to take a break. The McDonald's in Wellington Place Hastings, is owned and operated by franchisee Carel Venter, who said: "I'm proud to reinvest in our Hastings restaurant. The dining area is more contemporary, and we now have separate facilities for our dine-in customers and our couriers leading to a better experience for everyone. "It's exciting to see the fresh new look and feel of our Hastings restaurant and I'm confident the changes will not only benefit our customers but also our restaurant team as these will help make their jobs a little easier."
