Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in administration, in finance or in a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of mortgage experience, with a preference for reverse mortgage experience
  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to respond in a clear, concise, and professional manner
  • Excellent time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong organizational skills and rigor
  • Sound knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML), anti-terrorist financing (ATF) practices, and fraud risks in the mortgage industry, with ability to address concerns related to misrepresentation
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage funding, quality assurance (QA) and underwriting guidelines (asset)
  • Experience underwriting mortgages for properties located in different provinces (asset)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment with high volume and high pace
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with mortgage brokers
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying abreast of industry changes and trends
  • Critical thinking for unique transactions requiring outside-the-box thinking
Responsibilities
  • Promptly review received mortgage applications, verify supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and legitimacy, and approve, decline, or refer for approval
  • Ensure approved deals close as scheduled by following up on outstanding conditions and documents and ensuring compliance with established guidelines
  • Follow up with mortgage brokers daily on issued mortgage commitments to maximize funding volumes
  • Review documentation for accuracy with emphasis on AML and ATF requirements, including income and down payment verification
  • Ensure mortgage files comply with the organization’s lending policies and procedures
  • Manage deal flow to meet deadlines and service level agreements, using reports to track funding progress
  • Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service while fielding mortgage broker inquiries and building strong broker relationships
  • Be the main point of contact for mortgage brokers, internal teams, and direct client representatives, providing underwriting and mortgage funding expertise and supporting colleagues as needed
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies, procedures and products
  • Develop strong broker relationships including in-person meetings to drive excellent net promoter score without sacrificing credit quality
  • Assess applicant’s fit with EQB’s Reverse Mortgage criteria, including creditworthiness and legal ability to contract; perform title searches, property maintenance affordability calculations, review property appraisal and borrower documentation to meet internal policy, regulatory and file-specific requirements
  • Collaborate with Management from SFR Credit, SFR Residential Operations and SFR Sales to evolve the EQB Reverse Mortgage product, and work with a wide range of internal stakeholders to explain product differences
  • Take initiative and demonstrate urgency to ensure files are funded in a timely manner

EQB appoints Daniel Rethazy as EVP to lead Personal Banking expansion and PC Financial integration

EQB Inc. has appointed Daniel Rethazy as Executive Vice President, Personal Banking, effective 6 April 2026. Rethazy will oversee a unified Personal Banking business integrating residential lending, deposits and the EQ Bank digital platform. Subject to regulatory approval, he will also manage products and channels from EQB's announced acquisition of PC Financial, including the long-term strategic relationship with Loblaw Companies for EQ Bank to become the exclusive banking partner for the PC Optimum programme. CEO Chadwick Westlake described Rethazy as "a generational talent in Canadian banking", noting his experience will accelerate growth for EQB's Personal Banking franchise. The appointment reflects EQB's strategy to compete as a digital-first challenger in Canadian banking whilst scaling operations and strengthening its market position.

EQB posts Q1 adjusted diluted EPS of $2.26, up 48% q/q as efficiency ratio improves to 49.1%

EQB Inc reported first quarter 2026 results with adjusted diluted earnings per share of $2.26, up 48% quarter-over-quarter but down 24% year-over-year. Adjusted net income reached $85.2 million, whilst adjusted return on equity improved to 11.1%. The Canadian digital bank's efficiency ratio improved to 49.1% from 53.6% in the previous quarter, reflecting cost benefits from a strategic restructuring programme. Commercial lending loans under management grew 3% quarter-over-quarter and 19% year-over-year. EQ Bank added 26,000 new customers in the quarter, bringing total customers to 633,000. The company declared a dividend of $0.59 per share, up 16% year-over-year. EQB is progressing with its planned acquisition of PC Financial, having filed regulatory applications in January 2026. The company maintained a CET1 capital ratio of 13.6%.
