Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in the aquatic field, including lifeguarding and swim instruction, or a preferred Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Completion and maintenance of Lifeguard certification.
  • Strong communication and human relations skills when dealing with staff and members.
  • Decision-making skills related to aquatic safety and efficient operation of the aquatic area.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Availability to work approximately 20–25 hours per week, with hours varying according to department needs.
Responsibilities
  • Support the operation and administration of all aquatic programs at the facility and within the community under the supervision of the Aquatics Director.
  • Hire, train, and coach staff; administer the department; and develop programs in accordance with YMCA of the USA guidelines.
  • Maintain high member-service standards in the aquatic department.
  • Assist with implementing and supervising aquatic programs and collaborations while ensuring quality and adherence to YMCA standards.
  • Cover lifeguarding and teaching shifts as needed for call-outs.
  • Maintain aquatic safety standards, including Department of Public Health standards.
  • Implement Character Development and YMCA focus areas in the aquatic department and programs.
  • Participate in the branch’s Annual Campaign and assist with campaign completion and related special events and activities.
  • Attend Aquatic Mission Impact Team meetings and other required branch and association meetings.
  • Maintain the physical upkeep of the pool and department.
  • Assist with branch programs and activities at the request of the Aquatics Director.
  • Teach lifeguard certification classes as necessary.
  • Cover coaching shifts as necessary.
  • Assist with private swim lesson registration and group lesson scheduling.
