Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development credential, or 10 years of work experience, is required.
  • For Wisconsin, completion of a medical assistant school or training program, or equivalent education for certification, is required.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • One of the listed medical assistant certifications is required, including Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant Certification, Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant Certification, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant credentials from the specified organizations.
  • The role requires constant standing and walking; frequent oral communication, hearing, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 0–25 pounds, reaching, gripping, keyboard use and data entry, and near and far vision; occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, repetitive foot or leg and hand or arm movements, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 25–50 pounds, lifting or moving patients, smell detection, and driving.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with provider-ordered treatments under the supervision of a provider or registered nurse and perform select clinical duties.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs, record patient information in charts, and prepare examination treatment rooms.
  • Answer phones, maintain records, schedule patients, and file documents.
  • Order and stock supplies and help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Document provider encounters, record diagnoses and symptoms, and enter follow-up instructions and prescriptions as indicated by the provider.
  • Transcribe provider orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
