Requirements
  • Education generally equivalent to a high school education.
  • One year of directly related experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
  • Ability to work day shifts Monday through Friday without weekends or holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Eye Center physicians and technical support personnel with diagnostic tests used to evaluate patient eye problems.
  • Perform preliminary screening examinations, including central and peripheral visual field tests, color vision tests, indentation and applanation tonometry, and pupil testing before dilation.
  • Examine the cornea, lens, and anterior chamber using a slit lamp and note variations from normal.
  • Measure distance and near visual acuity with and without glasses, obtain optical and lensometry measurements, determine lens prescriptions, record findings on patient charts, and administer Electro-Retinogram and Electro-Oculogram tests.
  • Obtain medical and personal data for patient charts.
  • Assist physicians in fitting patients with contact lenses.
  • Calibrate and maintain ophthalmic instruments, including biomicroscopes, lensometers, keratometers, tangent screens, slit lamps, and tonometers.
  • Clean and stock consultation rooms and the microbiology laboratory with drugs and other supplies as needed.
