Position 1: May 16, 2025 – October 31, 2025
Position 2: June 1 – October 31, 2025

As a Biological Science Assistant – Leaburg Fish Sorter at the Leaburg Fish Hatchery near Vida, Oregon, you will:
Operate and maintain the Leaburg fish sorter/trap to capture fish adult and juvenile fish
Identify, enumerate and measure fish collected in the trap, and maintain them in good health until time of release
Operate Oneida trap nets, seines, minnow traps and electrofishing equipment to remove brook trout and monitor cutthroat trout in the Carmen Reservoir area of the upper McKenzie River
Transport captured fish
Conduct spawning ground surveys for bull trout and Chinook salmon in the Upper Willamette Basin
Maintain and repair fish sampling gear and equipment

Housing at McKenzie or Leaburg hatcheries may be available for successful applicants with the completion of a rental agreement with the hatchery manager.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however, we are seeking applicants with the following experience or skills. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with these skills and background:
Experience operating and maintaining fish sorting and trapping equipment
Experience with research and monitoring techniques
Experience working with fish
Experience collecting and recording data
Anyone who has or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%
