Requirements
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is required.
  • Knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities and Office for People With Developmental Disabilities regulations is required.
  • Willingness to work one day of each weekend is required.
  • Ability to assist in planning, organizing, developing, and implementing program policies and procedures in a timely and consistent manner is required.
  • Ability to deal diplomatically with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED, along with three or more years of Direct Support Professional experience at an Office for People With Developmental Disabilities-certified residence, is required.
  • A valid New York or Tri-State driver's license held for more than one year and in good standing is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with ensuring ongoing compliance and quality assurance with State and Federal regulations applicable to the assigned facility.
  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to direct support employees assigned to the residence.
  • Confer with the Residence Manager in completing mandated written evaluations of residence staff and participate in overseeing disciplinary actions addressing staff performance problems.
  • Provide service coverage according to the staff schedule and cover changes caused by direct staff shortages or emerging resident needs.
  • Assume responsibility for smooth residence operations, including compliance with funder and agency policies and procedures for house and vehicle maintenance, fire safety, and resident and personnel files.
  • Collaborate with the Residence Manager in planning each resident's individualized program of services and care, covering daily and longer-term needs, and ensure direct care staff deliver services addressing each resident's interests, preferences, strengths, and capabilities.
  • When assigned to oversee medical services, collaborate with residence clinical staff to monitor medical-service activities, maintain electronic and paper medical records, schedule and attend medical appointments, administer medications properly, and request referrals as needed.
  • Ensure each resident's basic needs are met, including adequate food, clothing, personal hygiene items, and other belongings necessary in the home environment.
  • Serve with the Residence Manager as liaison with the Treatment Coordinator in reviewing active treatment services and expected residential habilitation outcomes, including attending team meetings and evaluating the accuracy of activity schedules and documentation.
  • Formulate and recommend ideas and outcomes with the Residence Manager to enhance each resident's quality of life.
  • Attend and successfully complete mandated and skills-development training courses as assigned.
  • Provide training to residence staff as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supervising staff in a residential setting is preferred but not required.

OPWDD: Governor Hochul Announces Awards for 'Step-Down' Programs for Hospitalized New Yorkers Living With Mental Illness & Developmental Disabilities

For five years, AHRC New York City has partnered with NYC Health + Hospitals, and now New York State Office of Mental Health and NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities to enable people with developmental disabilities, autism and suspected IDD and autism, who have co-occurring mental health diagnoses, to exit unnecessary hospital stays and move into a community transition program, one with intensive clinical and case management supports.
