Requirements
  • Completion of a Labor and Delivery training program and two years of experience after completing the training program.
  • Knowledge of hemodynamics and basic intravenous skills.
  • Thorough understanding of fetal monitoring equipment and tracings.
  • Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • A current California Registered Nurse license.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Advanced Provider certification.
  • Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Advanced External Fetal Monitoring certification.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification before completion of orientation and independent assignment for employees hired on or after January 1, 2025.
  • Successful completion of orientation, initial competency assessment, and all annual competencies before performing applicable skills independently.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, assess, and provide nursing care according to hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Provide antepartum, labor, delivery, circulating, recovery, postpartum, and normal newborn/couplet care.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Provide nursing interventions and assist physicians during treatment.
  • Monitor and record patient conditions and notify physicians when appropriate.
  • Orient new staff, precept students, and assume relief charge nurse duty as assigned.
  • Adhere to the 10 Steps of the Baby-Friendly initiative.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least five years of current labor and delivery nursing experience.
  • Scrub skills.
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. certification.
  • Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Intermediate External Fetal Monitoring certification for renewal after initial completion of the Advanced External Fetal Monitoring class.
