As a Materials Engineering Intern, Design Assurance you will be supporting the evaluation of material selection, processing and performance for the New Product Development and Sustaining groups within Design Assurance. You will help drive the creation of safe and effective orthopedic devices for the NPD business and maintain the highest standard of product quality for the Sustaining business. Our global team works within the Design Assurance Engineering function, but will have significant interaction with Product Development, Advanced Operations and Sterility.
·You will support the materials engineering analysis of new hip and knee orthopedic devices.
·You will build partnerships with your cross functional partners to drive design rigor and safety into new designs.
·You will help in design reviews by identifying materials engineering risks associated with the product use and work with partners to improve the design from a materials engineering perspective.
·You will perform material analysis on prototype and released product to evaluate the materials engineering variables for the given design.
·You will support internal specification reviews and updates to align with the latest industry standards.
·You will aid in reviewing supplier documentation and questions regarding material processing and performance.
·You will partner closely with your cross functional team to drive our company’s mission and strengthen the Stryker brand.

As an Engineering Intern at Stryker, you will be placed in one of the following teams:
AQE interns work on engineering projects related to development of newproducts. Areas of emphasis may include human factors engineering, riskmanagement, application of statistics, reliability engineering, design verification, anddesign validation including customer interaction. As Homer Stryker pointed out, “Ifyour tools don’t work, make them work. If you can’t make them work, make some thatdo work.” In this directive, the AQE team works to make sure that the products wedevelop at Stryker will work consistently for our customers to meet or exceed theirexpectations.
Collaborate on cross-functional teams to ensure high product quality, addressing userneeds, safety, and reliability. Manage post-market quality processes and designchanges.
Analyze and resolve production issues using CAD, root cause analysis, and validationtechniques to optimize quality and processes.
Oversee critical suppliers, ensuring manufacturing standards through closecollaboration, technical assessment, and internal coordination.
Collaborate on cross-functional teams to research and design new products using toolslike CAD and FEA, ensuring alignment with customer needs, business requirements,and regulations.
Work with cross-functional teams to enhance current products through research,using tools like CAD, FEA, and root cause analysis. Improve product safety and efficacy.
Partner with Test Engineers and R&D to experiment with prototypes, test productdesigns, and perform quantitative verification. Gain hands-on experience acrossvarious technical specialties.
Collaborate with Design and Operations to enhance manufacturing processes, fixtures,and assembly lines. Apply lean principles and improve safety and ergonomics.
Collaborate across divisions to develop innovative robotic systems for orthopedicsurgeries. Contribute to various stages of development, from hardware and softwaredesign to accuracy studies.
Develop innovative packaging solutions based on customer input. Work with cross-functional teams to support packaging design changes and adhere to regulatoryrequirements.
Collaborate with multiple departments to support regulatory decision-making,prepare global regulatory submissions, and assist in post-market reporting. Stayupdated on changing regulations.
Clinical/Biomedical Engineering:
Cross-functional collaboration to assist clinical research programs. Gain exposure toclinical research landscape, accompany site monitoring visits, prepare literaturereviews, and participate in collaborative development processes.
• Currently working on completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related fieldor equivalent; we will only consider students who plan be enrolled in a degree-seekingprogram after the summer, prefer candidates who are pursuing their Materials Science or Materials Engineering degree
• Cumulative 3.0 GPA or above; must be the case at the date of hireand alsowill beverified during background check in the spring
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and not require employment-basedsponsorship now or in the future.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to managepriorities and workflow
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changingpriorities with enthusiasm
