About Watershed
Watershed is the enterprise sustainability platform. Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for voluntary and regulatory reporting including CSRD, and drive real decarbonization. We are looking for team members who love product-building, want to work hard at a mission-oriented startup, and will collaborate with us in shaping the culture of a growing team.
We have offices in San Francisco, New York, London and Sydney, and remote team members across the US and Europe. We hope that you’ll be interested in joining us!
The role
Do you love to build great technology and great teams? Watershed is working to scale a world-class engineering team, and we’re hiring for an experienced Engineering Manager to help lead this work. You will join a team of peer Engineering Managers and technical leads to define the culture and practice of engineering at Watershed.
We view hands-on engineering and engineering management as parallel career paths. We admire Engineering Managers who have a track-record as engineers, maybe pendulumed back and forth, and now want to grow as a technical leader focusing on people and product. Your job is to empower each engineer on the team to do the best work of their career-to-date. Each Engineering Manager is going to customize the role a bit — contributing a blend of technical, people, and product experience.
As one of the early managers in a fast growing company, you’re setting culture not just for engineering but for Watershed as a whole. One of your main levers on this is recruiting for the team — you will represent Watershed to interested candidates, decide whom to hire, and guide their onboarding at Watershed. You, along with the rest of Watershed’s leadership and people teams, are responsible for building a diverse, inclusive, and hard-working organization. We are excited to work on this together!
In this role, you will:
- Be a first line manager leading the Footprint and Calculations engineering teams that are core platforms to our internal engineering product teams and customers
- Manage a team of 10
- Inspire and lead the team through the next phases of growth ($100M+)
- Partner closely with Product, Design and GTM teams
You might be a good fit if:
- 2-5+ yrs of engineering team management experience
- Have 8+ years of overall developer and management experience in total
- Have grown and managed teams of 10+ engineers
- Have a strong platform engineering background: building business specific systems that all other engineering teams use in a scaling company
- Good product sense, working closely with customers
- Must have B2B experience, and big plus to have enterprise SaaS experience
- Experience developing products is a plus
- A mix of scrappy startup and big company experience is a plus
This position is required to be in our San Francisco HQ
At Watershed, we strive to design consistent, fair, and competitive compensation programs. $217,350—$275,300 USD
FAQ
Where does Watershed work?
We have hub offices in San Francisco, New York and London, and some remote team members in the US and EU. Most of our jobs need to be in San Francisco / New York / London, but certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description.
What’s the interview process like?
It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel after that if the screens go well. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
