Requirements
  • A BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, along with experience as a software developer, software engineer, verification engineer, or in a related field.
  • Proficiency in one or more of C, C++, VHDL, Verilog, Python, or C#.
  • Experience building, analyzing, debugging, or testing bare-metal systems and familiarity with CMSIS, a hardware abstraction layer, or a specific peripheral driver.
  • Experience with FPGAs or heterogeneous computing boards requiring communication and synchronization between specialized hardware or chips.
  • Experience developing embedded software and performance tests and interpreting the results.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey difficult engineering or technical challenges to stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work 100% of the week onsite at either the SEI or customer facility.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain and maintain an active Department of War security clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Understand complex, interdependent systems across multiple abstraction levels for embedded systems and interact across multiple system interfaces.
  • Design and develop embedded software tools and capabilities to analyze, test, and evaluate existing software.
  • Apply systems engineering knowledge to identify and communicate weaknesses and flawed implementations of embedded functionality by tracing from requirements.
  • Use static analysis, dynamic testing, and complexity analysis tools to uncover software weaknesses, security vulnerabilities, and instances of poor engineering judgment, guiding a high-impact safety-critical system toward robustness, reliability, and engineering soundness.
  • Conduct research and experimentation and present knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance software development processes, demonstrate analytical capabilities, and foster understanding of system-of-systems integration and performance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Java, Go, Rust, Ada, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with FPGAs or heterogeneous computing boards requiring communication and synchronization between specialized hardware or chips.
  • Exposure to modern real-time operating systems such as VxWorks or Integrity and experience developing and analyzing embedded software.
  • Understanding of the Department of War Systems Engineering lifecycle.
  • Willingness to travel 25% outside the office location to other SEI offices, sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings.
