Requirements
  • A current approved Alabama Board of Nursing Registered Nurse license or a multistate license is required, or the ability to obtain one before starting.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training is required, or it must be obtained within the stated start-date window.
  • A minimum Associate degree is required.
  • The candidate must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required for the Dialysis unit.
  • The candidate must demonstrate leadership, decision-making, clear communication, delegation, conflict management, and the ability to work under time pressure.
  • The candidate must be able to use electronic mail, telephone, texting, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • The candidate must be able to work onsite, every other weekend, including Saturdays and Sundays, as scheduled.
  • The candidate must tolerate exposure to body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals, hazardous materials, and cleaning solutions while using required protective equipment.
  • The candidate must be able to perform medium work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, sitting, stooping, and running in an emergency.
  • The candidate must possess sufficient coordination, sensation, hearing, vision, and stamina to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct quality, compassionate patient care while maintaining professional nursing practice standards and positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Supervise LPNs, PCAs, PCAs/US, US, orthopedic technicians, and other nonlicensed staff.
  • Assess each assigned patient's physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, pain, nutritional, functional, developmental, age-related, and discharge-planning needs on admission and throughout care.
  • Plan, provide, and document patient and significant-other education after identifying barriers to learning.
  • Evaluate and reevaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
  • Assign and delegate nursing care to team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities.
  • Apply safety principles when performing care.
  • Accurately document observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
  • Provide accurate handoff reports and participate in unit-based huddles.
  • Assist with performance-improvement activities, including serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with measures, and implementing necessary changes.
  • Perform initial and annual competency assessments for the applicable job class.
  • Prepare and perform dialysis treatments on patients within the organization.
  • Maintain patient, employee-satisfaction, performance, and financial standards.
  • Perform compliance requirements and follow DCH Health System policies, procedures, and behavioral standards.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices, risks, and hazards affecting patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.
