What do Steel City and 84 Lumber have in common? Grit, hometown pride and now, a line of co-branded apparel. March 31, 2026 Two hometown brands are releasing a limited-edition apparel collection "rooted in craftsmanship, grit and pride," according to a press release. Steel City, the Pittsburgh-based clothing company, and 84 Lumber, the nation's largest privately held supplier of building materials based out of Eighty-Four in Washington County, announced a new brand collaboration featuring a crewneck t-shirt, hoodie and a baseball cap co-branded with Steel City x 84 Lumber designs. Though it may seem like an unlikely collaboration between two businesses that, at first glance, don't have much in common, each piece is inspired by the hard-working spirit that defines the city they call home. "When I was a kid, I spent a lot of my Saturday mornings at 84 Lumber with my dad. Loading 2x4s into the back of his blue pickup truck, instead of watching cartoons," says Brandon Grbach, CEO of Steel City, in a statement. "It felt like a chore! But when I grew up, and started building my own things, I realized the lumberyard is where creation begins like a painter choosing canvas and color. Now, collaborating between Steel City and 84 Lumber is full circle for me. It's about making something real, practical, and meaningful that didn't exist before." ADVERTISING The Steel City x 84 Lumber collection officially launched March 31. Items are available through Steel City's website. Currently, the T-shirt, hat and crewneck are available for purchase. "This collaboration is about more than apparel, it's about storytelling," says Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing at 84 Lumber. "For seven decades, 84 Lumber has been built by our associates who take pride in their work and where they come from. Partnering with Steel City allowed us to bring that pride to life in a way that feels authentic, iconic, and unmistakably Pittsburgh."
