Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required for all Ochsner Magnet Facilities.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience as a registered nurse or 2 years of experience as a licensed practical nurse in an acute care setting.
  • Hold a current registered nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to assess patients' medical needs and identify solutions.
  • Be proficient in unit productivity, expense management, regulatory requirements, and quality indicators.
  • Be proficient in computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Have effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Have organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage priorities and projects amid interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Remain objective and professional in stressful situations.
  • Remain knowledgeable about applicable federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Meet the physical demands of medium work and routinely work with exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, communicable diseases, and potentially hazardous medications or waste.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a supervisor and point-of-care provider for individuals and cohorts of patients within a unit.
  • Evaluate nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating, and supervising care provided by licensed nurses, registered nurses, and patient care technicians.
  • Serve as a resource to staff for patient-care assessment, planning, and evaluation of nursing interventions.
  • Facilitate problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff.
  • Identify staff strengths and weaknesses and evaluate staff performance for team members within the span of control.
  • Administer medications, start intravenous lines, and discharge patients with the healthcare team.
  • Organize, plan, supervise, and provide coordinated patient care within the unit.
  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate assigned departmental staff nurses and technicians.
  • Promote adoption of nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines supporting evidence-based practice.
  • Manage conflict on assigned shifts and collaborate with supervisors and unit leadership when further action is needed.
  • Collaborate with patient quality, safety, and experience leadership and promote related processes.
  • Support daily clinical operations by ensuring effective scheduling, staffing, and availability of clinical supplies and resources.
  • Adapt behavior, explanations, permissions, and communication style to the specific patient population.
  • Report known or suspected unethical, questionable, patient-safety, privacy, or compliance concerns in accordance with the Compliance and Privacy Program.

Ochsner Health partners with Hoda Kotb's Joy 101 to support 40,000 team members' well-being

Ochsner Health has partnered with Joy 101, a well-being platform founded by Emmy Award-winning journalist Hoda Kotb, to provide nearly 40,000 employees with free access to personalised wellness content. The Louisiana-based nonprofit health system is the first employer and first health system in the US to partner with Joy 101. The platform offers short, flexible wellness experiences under 10 minutes, covering meditation, breathwork, sleep, movement and personal growth. Content is curated by Kotb and led by experts including Harvard professor Arthur Brooks and NYU professor Suzy Welch. "Our team members show up every day with expertise, compassion and purpose," said Pete November, chief executive officer at Ochsner Health. Cognito Therapeutics and Ochsner Health launch Gulf South brain health collaboratory for Alzheimer's care

Cognito Therapeutics has partnered with Ochsner Health to launch a Brain Health Collaboratory in the Gulf South, advancing new care models for Alzheimer's disease. The collaboration will combine Cognito's investigational Spectris technology with Ochsner's clinical network across Louisiana, Mississippi and surrounding areas. The partnership will develop a Brain Health Index to track cognitive health and disease progression whilst exploring integration of Spectris therapy into clinical care. The collaboratory will also examine coverage pathways for dual-eligible Medicare and Medicaid populations. Spectris, which received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in 2021, delivers synchronised light and sound stimulation for at-home use. It is currently being evaluated in the HOPE Trial. This marks Cognito's second Brain Health Collaboratory, following a November 2025 launch with West Virginia University's Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.
