- A bachelor degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical Science, or Biological Science is required.
- Successful completion of a Clinical Laboratory training program is required.
- Computer knowledge including Laboratory Information Systems, Hospital Information Systems, and personal computers is required.
- Certification by a professional laboratory-certifying agency, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, or eligibility for certification is required.
- Five years of Clinical Laboratory experience, including one year of supervisory experience, is required.
- Supervise all activities within the laboratory and department operations to meet laboratory service demands within the financial and operational plan.
- Implement operational and technical policies and procedures for resource utilization, financial performance, service standards, and regulatory and accrediting agency compliance.
- Provide input on operational goals.
- Direct cost-effective utilization of personnel and supply inventory to meet or exceed financial objectives.
- Review customer service and financial budgetary constraints.
- Oversee the Point-of-Care testing program to ensure compliance.
- Apply personnel management policies and procedures, including hiring, counseling, and employee separation.
- Coach team members and oversee scheduling.
- Ensure the performance management program is implemented and maintained, including coaching plans, competencies, and results sharing.
- Coordinate with other Baptist Health Laboratory departments to maintain consistency in technical, operational, and administrative policies and procedures.
- Manage personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance and compliance with applicable policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Interact with pathologists, medical staff, laboratory employees, department managers, and laboratory customers regarding laboratory services.
- Work with the Purchasing department to negotiate vendor contracts and implement cost-containment measures.
- Use process-improvement indicators, benchmark information, customer requirements, and team input to implement quality-service and team-relationship objectives.
- Participate in interdepartmental and intradepartmental process-improvement activities.
- Practice and oversee safety and infection-control practices.
- Perform other assigned duties.
