Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
- Two years of related work experience laying underground wet utilities and/or dry utilities is required.
- Knowledge of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for effective pipeline installation or repair is required.
- Ability to work to required accuracy standards is required.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, overtime, and occasional nights and weekends is required.
- Ability to stand and exert physical effort while performing manual labor for most of the day is required.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally is required.
- Ability to work in confined spaces is required.
- Ability to understand and follow plans, drawings, and verbal and written directions is required.
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, eye protection, reflective vest, gloves, and composite-toed boots, is required.
- Ability to work safely outdoors in Arizona heat conditions and perform all job duties without restrictions is required.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools used for pipelaying is required.
- Knowledge or experience in underground dry and/or wet utility installation is required.
- Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules, regulations, and safety precautions for work on or near roads and highways is required.
- Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions involving tools and the work environment is required.
- Thorough knowledge of safety standards and Underground Facilities Law, including Blue Stake and Arizona 811, is required.
- An OSHA 10 Certification must be held, obtained, and maintained.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests is required.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, connect, and install pipe systems for wet utilities and/or dry utilities.
- Measure and mark pipes to the required length for cutting and threading.
- Cut, thread, hammer, and weld pipe to specifications using saws, pipe threaders, and benders.
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
- Secure pipes to structures using clamps, brackets, and hangers.
- Grout and clear manholes.
- Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure hydrostatic testing, observation, or other testing methods.
- Locate existing pipes requiring repair or replacement through potholing and/or excavation.
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
- Maintain a safe worksite and follow company rules and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, including required safety training.
- Perform manual labor tasks using pneumatic, electric, and hand tools.
- Work safely in wet or humid conditions, around moving mechanical parts, precarious and narrow spaces, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather, extreme heat, loud noises, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical-shock hazards, and vibration.
Desired Qualifications
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration, confined-space, and related safety training is a plus.
- Bilingual English and Spanish ability is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities are desired.
