Environmental Health and Safety

Maxar Space is seeking an entry level Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in and learn, hands-on, the EHS field in support of maintaining a safe and healthy campus environment.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor air emission permit conditions including, but not limited to,
  • Keep track of chemical usages and equipment operating hours.
  • Maintain electronic records required by the air district.
• Perform weekly hazardous waste storage area inspections and maintain proper housekeeping.
• Oversee hazardous waste disposal and maintain associated records.
• Conduct annual chemical fume hood certification testing.
• Maintain EHS programs such as the chemical tracking system and Safety Data Sheet electronic program.
• Evaluate office workstation for proper ergonomic setup.
• Respond to emergency life safety issues.
• Conduct safety walk-through in manufacturing and laboratory areas.
• Manage Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. Collect stormwater samples and conduct inspections as required by applicable regulations.
• Maintain EHS computer-based training modules and safety metrics.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Bachelor’s degree in a science related field
• Proficient in the use of MS Excel, and Word and Adobe Acrobat (Writer)
• Ability to support our main campus as well as adjoining Mountain View buildings and San Jose office, as needed
• Ability to be on call on a 24-hr basis to provide emergency assistance and response on critical life safety issues

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to use a full-face respirator and SCBA and pass the respirator medical evaluation
• Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification.
• Ability to obtain ATF Explosive Possessor clearance from ATF
• Ability to obtain  40 hr HAZWOPER certification
