Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on engineering experience; design team and previous internship experience qualify.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and achieve desired outcomes as an individual contributor and as part of a team.
  • Ability to certify as fit for work by demonstrating the ability to swim and tread water.
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively lift, push, and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work in marine environments, including sun, wind, rain, cold, and saltwater spray, often for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate in daylight, low-light, and night conditions using marine navigation systems and visual cues.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to carry 20 pounds up and down stairs.
  • U.S. Person status is required for access to export-controlled information or items in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of vehicle hardware and software architecture and how the vehicle operates as an integrated system.
  • Lead the planning and execution of structured field tests for vessel performance, including autonomous navigation, perception, communications, and sensor integration.
  • Diagnose and perform real-time troubleshooting of autonomy, networking, and onboard hardware or software during test events.
  • Implement solutions for testing, vessel-operation safety, and system robustness to maximize efficiency.
  • Own data logging and telemetry monitoring systems and ensure data integrity for post-test analysis.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and issue triage workflows after field anomalies, with reporting to relevant review boards to eliminate repeat issues.
  • Maintain autonomous vessels and test environments, including vessel and support craft operations, using telemetry tools and onboard diagnostics to enhance equipment and product reliability.
  • Ensure testing aligns with Department of Defense performance, compliance, and safety standards when applicable.
  • Lead the planning and execution of test cases to validate software updates, autonomy behaviors, and integrated system functionality.
  • Interface with autonomy, software, hardware, and systems teams to translate product requirements into field-validated test objectives.
  • Develop test procedures, checklists, and safety protocols to support repeatable and safe vessel operation and mission execution while eliminating process waste.
  • Create post-mission reports with detailed logs, data plots, issue summaries, and engineering feedback.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong hardware and software problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and the ability to work effectively in challenging field conditions such as offshore open water.
  • Experience and knowledge of best practices in planning and executing complex test operations involving autonomous systems.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and communication systems used in autonomous vessels.
  • Systems engineering experience and the ability to understand multidisciplinary integrated systems.
  • Experience with sensor integration such as electro-optical/infrared, radar, inertial measurement units, and data processing.
  • Experience integrating and testing multidisciplinary integrated systems.
  • Experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, or machine learning applications.
  • Familiarity with software development in Rust, Python, or other languages and a command-line interface environment.
  • Ability to clone repositories, create and check out branches, cherry-pick commits, and check status across multiple branches while testing features.
  • Familiarity with maritime operations.
  • Understanding of Department of Defense requirements and standards for autonomous systems.
  • Experience working with embedded systems and real-time computing.

Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs) from Saronic Technologies support naval and maritime operations. The vessels use adaptive path planning, passive sensors, edge computing, and resilient multichannel communications to identify, track targets, and coordinate manned and unmanned vessels in contested waters. The ships run onboard algorithms and can be customized and integrated to fit specific missions and CONOPs. The goal is to improve situational awareness, extend operational reach, and increase survivability in maritime engagements.

Saronic closes $1.75B Series D at $9.25B valuation to scale autonomous maritime defence platforms

Saronic Technologies has raised $1.75 billion in a Series D round led by Kleiner Perkins, valuing the Austin-based company at $9.25 billion. The autonomous maritime systems startup will use the funding to scale production of autonomous vessels for defence and commercial applications. New investors include Advent International, Bessemer Venture Partners, DFJ Growth and BAM Elevate, alongside existing backers 8VC, Caffeinated Capital and Andreessen Horowitz. Saronic is expanding its shipbuilding facilities in Louisiana and Texas whilst developing Port Alpha, a next-generation shipyard. The company aims to restore US shipbuilding capacity through autonomy-first design and modern manufacturing infrastructure. CEO Dino Mavrookas said Saronic is scaling production at a pace not seen since World War II, producing autonomous vessels to maintain maritime superiority for the US and its allies.

Navy awards Saronic $392M contract for autonomous surface vessels

The US Navy has awarded Austin-based Saronic a $392 million production contract for its Corsair autonomous surface vessels, with nearly $200 million allocated immediately. The deal was announced at the Reagan National Defence Forum, where Navy Secretary John Phelan noted the programme moved from prototype to production in under a year. Corsair is a 24-foot modular autonomous vessel capable of carrying 1,000 pounds over 1,000 nautical miles at speeds exceeding 35 knots. It's designed for blue-water operations including surveillance, reconnaissance and potential offensive applications. Last week, Saronic announced a $300 million expansion of its Louisiana shipyard, adding over 300,000 square feet of production space and creating approximately 1,500 jobs. The contract reflects the Navy's push to adopt commercially derived technologies faster.
