Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays.
Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with in-house bloodwork, urine and fecal testing, and Idexx laboratory equipment.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain kennels, operating rooms, examination rooms, cages, and treatment areas.
  • Room clients, obtain concise patient histories, and discuss preventative care including vaccination schedules, routine tests, and flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and tools.
  • Ensure examination and operating rooms are stocked.
  • Restrain animals during examinations, nail trims, blood draws, X-rays, and other services.
  • Walk dogs before and after surgery and walk in-house patients.
  • Change bedding and kennel materials.
  • Fill and verify medications as directed by doctors of veterinary medicine.
  • Assist with runback and technician appointments by retrieving patients from owners, assisting licensed veterinary technicians with procedures, entering charges, and returning patients to owners.
  • Provide pet owners with education, resources, and information about general pet care and specific conditions or post-procedure care at the veterinarian's direction.
  • Monitor, record, and report the physical condition and vital signs of hospitalized pets.
  • Perform vacuuming, mopping, laundry, and dishwashing duties.
  • Prioritize closing duties.
  • Ensure laboratory samples are sent out at the appropriate time.
  • Perform other duties as directed by doctors of veterinary medicine, hospital administration, or licensed veterinary technicians.
  • Support a practice environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork and delivers quality, compassionate, effective, and efficient veterinary care.
  • Comply with practice policies, quality assurance guidelines, and minimum standards of care.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting.
  • Current enrollment in veterinary technician school.
  • Proficiency with computers; Cornerstone experience is a plus.
  • Basic written, verbal, and active listening communication skills with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Basic analytical, critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Compassion and empathy for pets and pet owners.
  • Professional, caring, compassionate, and tactful interaction with clients and employees.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in an environment that fluctuates from orderly to fast-paced and stressful.
