About Filmhub? 🎬

Filmhub is where modern filmmakers distribute their titles directly to streaming services – without giving up rights and without the middlemen of the traditional industry. Founded by Hollywood composer and innovator Klaus Badelt and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Alan d’Escragnolle, Filmhub takes the entire distribution process online. Filmmakers list their titles and Filmhub’s Channel Partners – such as Amazon Prime Video, Freevee, The Roku Channel, rlaxx TV, TCL, Tubi, Xumo, and Plex – use the platform for discovery, automated licensing, asset fulfillment, and payment processing.

At Filmhub, you will be a product engineer - someone who solves real customer problems through a smart and efficient application of your technical knowledge and your tools. You’ll be part of our multidisciplinary product team, where you will build both backend and frontend systems and work closely with design, product management, and data engineering.

We’re facing many exciting challenges. We’re building the first platform to take the whole film distribution online, where your expertise can be applied to areas such as building beautiful movie listings, marketplace, search, digital video workflows, and machine learning, to name a few.

Developer experience is First at Filmhub, embracing cutting-edge frameworks and tools. We ship often and make deployments fast, which keeps us on our toes. Filmhub engineers have full ownership of what we build from beginning to end — not just a small slice of it. New team members deploy their first feature within their first few days, making a tangible change they own early on and all the time.

What will I be doing? 🚀

• Work in a cross-functional team with design, product, operations, and engineering.

• Ship a change to production on your first day and a feature in your first week. That “day one” change is automatically deployed to production along with your team’s other deployments. Every deployment is live for all of our users within seconds.

• Be involved in the full software lifecycle by contributing to technical design meetings, providing feedback, collaborating with other engineers to execute a project, and deploying it to production.

• Write full stack JavaScript code for our web app with React and NextJS, overcoming the traditional separation and limitations of frontend/backend. Enjoy writing both frontend and API code alongside each other with automatic code splitting. You’ll be flying through new features.

• Write backend code in JavaScript, Python or other languages for our Decoupled Cloud Apps, knitting together AWS infrastructure, workflow and platform technologies that form the core of Filmhub’s cloud processing infrastructure

What skills do I need? 📖

• Proficient - 4+ years:

  • JavaScript, React

  • ✨ PostgreSQL

  • Prisma or similar ORM

  • ✨ IaC: AWS Lambda, Step Functions, CDK

  • API best practices

• Productive (preferred):

  • NextJS

  • Serverless API’s

  • Cypress and Jest

  • Vercel

  • GitHub Actions

  • AWS Batch, CloudFront, CloudFront Functions, RDS, SQS

  • Docker

• Ideally also:

  • ✨ FFmpeg/transcode

  • Data engineering, ML, feature extraction, NLP, Scikit, Pandas and similar

• Experience with established best practices, establishing code patterns and architecture, error management, and observability.

• Passion and practical experience with leading or mentoring junior engineers.

• Familiar with standard software engineering methodology, e.g. unit testing, object-oriented design, data structures, code reviews, design documentation

• AWS experience or certification is a bonus

• Knowledge of how modern web applications work as well as distributed systems

• Effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions

• Learn quickly, iterate, unblock yourself, and persist until the right problem is solved

• Degree – Bachelor, Master etc – optional. You’re smart, code in your sleep, and learn fast.
