Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Superior clinical and critical thinking skills for the assigned unit or department.
  • Additional certification may be required based on the assigned patient population, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, or Trauma Nurse Core Course.
Responsibilities
  • Lead shift operations within the clinical setting to ensure delivery of high-quality care, exceptional customer experience, and optimal patient flow.
  • Manage staffing assignments for oncoming and off-going shifts based on patient acuity and team-member skill sets.
  • Coordinate patient flow by working with Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners.
  • Monitor the overall status of patients and closely monitor seriously ill patients within the area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate or participate in patient care while ensuring compliance with physician orders, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Serve as a resource for frontline team members and providers.
  • Support clinical collaboration focused on expected patient length of stay.
  • Perform direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  • Conduct Nurse Leader rounds and investigate and respond to patient, family, and physician complaints.
  • Participate in or lead safety huddles.
  • Assess equipment needs and ensure staff have and can appropriately use equipment.
  • Support leader-driven initiatives and assist with retention strategies for new team members.
  • Maintain a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  • Allocate and adjust staff assignments, assign meal breaks, and relieve team members as indicated.
  • Use fiscal management skills and financial resources in decision-making.
  • Attend leadership huddles and assist with new nursing and clinical initiatives.
  • Foster positive multidisciplinary partnerships through collegial collaboration.
  • Coach and mentor the nursing team.
  • Promote a safe working environment and support or coordinate follow-up related to workplace violence occurrences.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and liaison to ensure care is provided according to Baptist Health policies and procedures.
  • Participate in unit or department audits to identify opportunities for improvement and trends.
  • Promote high-quality nursing practice supported by evidence-based practice, research, organizational standards, and national standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Experience in an acute care setting.
  • Certification in the area of expertise.
